Is Allegra McEvedy a bit of a hypocrite?

I know Allegra isn't claiming to save the planet on Economy Gatronomy, but we've stopped eating at Leon (healthy fast-food restaurant which she founded and is now a shareholder) because by the admission of one of the staff they don't bother to recycle their disposable plastic cutlery or takeaway boxes. Even Pret-A-Manger, the McDonalds of sandwich bars, recycle their waste. What's economic about filling landfills with plastic cutlery?

She doesn't need to be economic though does she? She has a restaurant and a TV series.

TheFallenMadonna · 01/09/2009 17:36

And a book.

Fimbo · 01/09/2009 17:36

I love Leon, not her though.

Fimbo · 01/09/2009 17:37

I have the book but feck me if I can make her aoli sauce.

EleanoraBuntingCupcake · 01/09/2009 17:43

it is v. difficult to recycle plastic, esp in the uk. i suspect most of prets recycling is the paper and cardboard. i would be amazed if they recycle the cutlery

minitrip · 01/09/2009 17:51

Point taken EleanoraBuntingCupcake but perhaps there could be the option of returning cutlery to be washed and reused. Old fashioned I know...

health and safety and all that. plastic cutlery can splinter etc.

minitrip · 01/09/2009 17:53

Don't we all need to be a bit economic with the world's resources TheFallenMadonna?

i don't really get teh point of your boycott. does she claim to be an eco warrier? mcdonald do a hell of alot more damage with their crappy food.

NoahFence · 01/09/2009 17:55

Is she related to Edie Mcrreedy?

minitrip · 01/09/2009 17:56

Or maybe wooden/biodegradable cutlery?

OP posts:
EleanoraBuntingCupcake · 01/09/2009 17:56

she looks like she might indeed be related.

bless eddie.dd still thinks she saw her when we went to tobermory

mollyroger · 01/09/2009 17:57

or Hairy McClary from Donaldson's Dairy...?

NoahFence · 01/09/2009 17:57

muffin maclay says she is NOTHING to do with him - he only speaks on hay related matters

minitrip · 01/09/2009 18:00

No EleanoraBuntingCupcake, she doesn't claim to be an eco warriore. It's the use of 'Economy' in the title of her programme that I'm objecting to, and the constant complaining about wasted food, when she is chucking tonnes of plastic into the ground.

EleanoraBuntingCupcake · 01/09/2009 18:00

how can you joke with the earth is being killed by plastic forks

EleanoraBuntingCupcake · 01/09/2009 18:01

the programme is shite i would boycott her purely on that alone. i saw it last week and they were making ridiculous things that were not remotely economical

minitrip · 01/09/2009 18:03

On that we agree EleanoraBuntingCupcake. Wouldn't most people get bored of eating salmon five days in a row?

the treacle tart made me want to boak

mollyroger · 01/09/2009 18:05

Spork me with a foon...

minitrip · 01/09/2009 18:06

I've noticed they tend to choose middle-class families with ridiculously large shopping bills. I would challenge her to cook her fancy dishes cheaper than a weekly shop at Iceland.
