Flying ants in our house uninvited

We moved to this house a year ago when our move was delayed due to a few hundred flying ants crawling around in the front room. A year on and the same problem is back - I had a sneaky doze on the settee and when I woke up, there were about 3 dozen of them crawling around all over the boys toys on the floor.

Anyone else have this?

What can I do to get rid of them?

Please help - it's horrible!

We used to have this problem every year in our last house. The window of the back door in the kitchen would be covered in them. I think we used an insect spray and that usually did the job. Sorry can't help with the reason why - it was always the same time each year and in exactly the same place - strange. Hope you get rid of them soon.

They do seem to be coming from the fireplace area but we have had the (horrid sixties) fireplace off the wall and we can't see where they come from. Apparently this house has this problem every May and has done for years and years and no one yet has managed to shift them.

Nippon, you say? Is that safe with children and a cat?

You could try Rentokil, they may know how to get rid of them once and for all.

We get them too. They come in through the flu pipe for our combination boiler that's in the kithchen.
Last year I was drove absolutely mad trying to squash them all, however I solved the problem by cutting a leg off an old pair of tights and putting over the flu in the garden, it didn't affect the ventilation and hey presto no more flying ants .....the little buggers!

Our conservatory looks like smething out of a horror movie. The windows are black with the buggers (excuse my French). We've used Nippon, and I've sprayed ant powder on one nest, but it's in a different place from last year.

Ds's 5th birthday party in 2 weeks time, and we're due to use the conservatory. Think it might be time for Rentokil...
