Can you part ex a car for one of a similar value?

dh wants us to part ex his car for something for me.
His car is worth about £15-£16k and I dont want a more expensive car than that.
Can you do it?

Yes, we did this recently. I think dh may have had to pay a nominal amount (few hundred pounds iirc) but instead replaced a 4 year old car with a 2 yo old once that was still under warranty.
