How often do you de-frost your freezer?

OK guys, seeing as we know how often most of the other utter boringly awful jobs are done around the house. I tackled our freezer (an upright)yesterday. Yeah well, you know when you start something on a whim and then after a few HOURS of chipping away at 3 inch thick ice, both sides of the shelves, you think why o why didn't you just leave it. (I had a freezer de ice spray and more boiling water than an average kettle can cope with) OK, now its done Great.

When DH arrived home, I proudly (saddo) announced my mornings activities and realised it hadn't been done for 4 years!

also i do the chipping with a knife - very theraputic after a row

Custardo, except if you are my husband, when you chip a tad too hard and make a hole in the freezer wall, resulting in having to fork out for a new one.

I have done mine twice in the 3 years I have been here - how good am I???? It's not often I feel smug on a cleaning thread!!! But then only because the seal on the door got broken and the ice was literally 3" thick all the way round....

We have just got a new fridge freezer and it is a posh 'Frost free' one ... so I never ever have to defrost again .... joy!

I'm not sure if it was the intention of the thread, but I am currently defrosting my freezer...

(well, sitting here eating raisin toast and drinking tea while two bowls of hot water (hopefully) do the trick!!)

A lot. I don't shut the door properly and it's always freezing up!! I use a plastic scraper, lots of towels on the floor and a bowl. You can get defrosting spray for freezers like what you spray on windscreens of cars. Never used any though.

Defrosting the freezer is an easy job. All you have to do is switch it off and it does the job by itself. The thing I hate doing is cleaning the oven. Definitely the worst job ever.

All done! It looks much better and now I feel like I have actually achieved something today! Dh suggested using a hairdryer to help when he phoned at lunchtime, and that speeded things up nicely!

It also had the knock on effect of making me mop the floor!

When I move house (mind you, we do it quite a lot)
