Clearing house of furniture. What to do with it?

My parents inherited my grandparent's house some years back, and are just doing it up in preparation to move in permanently. They want me to help clear the furniture.

There are a few pieces which may be worth something. There are also lots of pieces which are in very good nick but probably not worth much so not worth the bother of selling. As we all have an emotional attachment to them, it would be nice to see them go to a good home or a good cause.

So my questions are - for the bits which are worth something, is it better to sell them through ebay or auction house, or another way?

For the other bits, do you know of any charities which come and pick up furniture?

Freecycle the bits that aren't worth anything.

I use Freecycle for lots of things and have got rid of stuff the same day sometimes which is really handy .

when my great aunt went into a nursing home we had the same problem
we had someone from an auction house come round to see if there was anything worth selling that way. had a few bits, but not as much as we thought.

charities like furni-aid will collect. we also h ave a local ymca furniture place and a BHA shop that sells furniture and both will collect

We have a local centre which takes good condition stuff to resell to low income households. Try ringing your local council to see if a simailr shceme operates locally or a charity like Salvation Army. If you have a lcoal auction house ask a valuer to pop round or organise a garage sale.

We have YMCA and The Bridge Trust nr us that will collect stuff in reasonable condition, TBT sell some but also give 'start up packs' of all the essentials to any ex-homeless who find permanent accom.
