Tales from the office: The new chair.

Someone from the accounts dept has a new chair. One of those horribly expensive fiddly ones that are supposed to be good for back posture. It is stuck in an odd position with the angle between the seat and the back to narrow and she can't use it. They have all fiddled with it but to no avail. It needs a spanner or an allen key and some WD40 by the looks of it. Man from the management company that looks after the place is due to come and fix it this afternoon. So it is sitting in the corner of the room atm looking like an abandoned instrument of torture.

But there isn't one man in the office who hasn't gone to look at it, ask questions and then have a go at it. One got on the floor turned the thing upside down and wrestled with it for ten minutes, before finally accepting that it had beaten him. At one point there was a gaggle of them standing round it discussing it.

Why do they do this? Is it a test of manhood like dragging home a mammoth carcase?

pmsl- we're like that at work when there is a product that doesn't work- and we're all girls!

Not a man thing then neccessarily. But it was odd how in this case only those who possessed a penis felt the need to get involved

Ah. it's OK. Man-who-knows-about-chairs came and looked at it and then took it away. I then it's buggered (techical term).

buggered is an excellent technical term. One much used.
