want to do some seaside trips but ave to travel by train with 4 young children so needs to be walking distance from station. We do weston-super-mare easily but want to try somewhere different, especially as there is no pier at weston now

Exmouth-off train then hop on the land train or bus to get to beach , about 0.5 mile to nearest sand, but a very long beach and good (pay) play park and safer sea paddling further along.

Dawlish warren, fall out of train, under bridge and your in the resort area, grass and paths for about 200m to beach. Nice loos. A pub with soft play area ( use the sea side entrance and its flat access to 1st floor and soft play).

Dawlish, Fall out of train onto beach. Loos back in land 200m across a busy road. Beach is rather dull.

Teignmouth. train to beach is a walk of about 0.3 mile good beach, Pier is OK, lots of 2p machines. Loos just back behind prom facing onto a large grassy area with a very good playground.

NOT the OPs target area, but
Scarborough- off train cross busy road walk 100m to reach traffic free path down hill then 400m to beach, OR walk through town and find out if the cliff lift is working this week or not. ( south bay) or catch a bus from station to get to north bay.

Cleethorpes, the train station is smack bang on the sea front.

Eastbourne? Geography of English counties not the best but it's about an hour from London Victoria (well it was in the 80s! )

Carbis Bay near St Ives in Cornwall, it's really lovely there, and it's on the branch line which is a nice ride. Plenty of self-catering accommodation and beach is wonderful for kids. We've been 3 times and love it.

Oh, I should have said, walk from train station at Carbis Bay to beach is about 5 mins if that. Plus it's gorgeous. Would go again this year but can't really afford the big train journey (live in Sheffield, costs a bomb to get there by train plus takes us 7 - 8 hours!!)
have a lovely holiday!
Joey

Cromer and Sheringham both have train stations within a 10 minute walk to the beach. Both walk through the town to get there too, so pavements and crossing etc.

Bournemouth seafront is quite a walk and not a particularly pleasant one from the train station - you can get a bus though.
We live in Dorset and near a train station and don't often go to Bournemouth because of the walk.
