So what is living on Bradford on avon like?

My job is relocating me to Bath. Will work in the university. I need a place for two DCs in primary and easy commute, so am considering Bradford on Avon and combe down.
I am leaning towards Boa, because I like the shops and having everything walking distance. Will have to commute by car to work though. Combe down allows walking or biking to work, but there is not much there.
I am looking for a nice child-friendly community, and bizarrely didn't seem much young families walking about Boa.... Did I miss the right places?

Any clue about what life for a transplanted family with young kids in Boa or southeast side of Bath is much appreciated.

Hello [waves]

I know BoA very well (although I don't live there myself, family do). It's a great place and ideal for family living. Lots for small ones to do but it also works as they get older. Schools are good too. I'd say it's a good choice.

I think it is pretty good; my nieces go there.

Geography is not my strong point name me some bits which are in the NW bit and I can be more useful.

I got married there actually. So holds fond memories for me.

littlerach · 26/05/2009 16:39

I got married there too

I live near-ish, it is very nice.
Good swimming pool, nice park, good schools, canal, some restaurants, though not many, but Bath is close enough. Railway station. Mostly independnat shops, but also Sainsburys.
Often stuff on at weekends. We went here a couple of weeks ago and it was full of families.
Most of it is nice ot live in.

Thanks everyone.
too bad I am already married!

We saw a house on Prior park. Off Winsley road. Is it a nice area?

Thanks for the tip on the property thread - will check there

Hello! [waves] we're thinking about moving to Bradford-on-Avon too (looking at some places in Bath like Combe Down, Bear Flat also). Just wondering if you found out any further info?!

I think Bradford -on -Avon is a great place, I visit when I can. I think you would be very lucky to live there I am trying to move out of Highgate London and think that boa is the ideal location. I have a 13 year old boy that has been mugged and now very nervures about going out. So I am thinking of moving to boa too. And I don?t think you can go wrong with surrounding areas. Bath has a few problems but nothing compared to London.

Hello, I don't know whether it's too late or not but Bradford-on-Avon is brilliant, I have lived here all my life and am now bringing up my 4 year old here, the schools and nurseries are excellent, and although it looks a bit dead at times there is always something to do!

Hi I have just moved to BOA 4 months ago from Highgate London. Its a really nice place to live if you have small children and its very pretty and safe. But to be honest I have had a few wobbles, its very quiet and not knowing anyone I am feeling home sick as well as missing friends, now i am dying to get back to Highgate London.

coffeeandcrumbs · 09/08/2018 19:33

highgate how has this year been panning out for you? Have things got better? We need to move within commutable distance of Trowbridge and considering BOA, also coming from north London so expecting it will be a big change!

goose1964 · 09/08/2018 22:20

My grandparents lived in BoA and it was great to visit, there's a lot of nice walks along the canal. Their complaint was the lack of "proper" shops and too many estate agents and charity shops.

coffeeandcrumbs · 10/08/2018 22:00

thanks goose, it seems to be the antithesis of where we are now, (think gun/knife crime, gangs, etc) and we too have a lack of 'proper' shops, just betting shops and dodgy phone shops, BOA might be a culture shock but I think it will be a positive one!
