Perfume-do you love it or hate it?

All the women in my family love perfume and have lots of it.I'm the odd one out as I only have 1 bottle of the Body Shop white musk which I have been wearing for years now.I'm very fussy about the smell of perfume but now think I'd like a change.I've found one I really like the smell of,Stilla's Creme Bouquet.
Have you been wearing the same scent for years and what's your favourite?Or do you just hate it?

Fidji by Guy Laroche - have to get it from France now as it's THAT unpopular!!

zebra · 23/04/2003 22:00

I begin to think I'm the only woman in the world (or just on Mumsnet) who doesn't like perfume. Sometimes I try it on in Department Stores for fun. I would never buy any. I haven't a clue what Chanel No. 5 or White Musk smell like, or which smell is which.
--Luddite in the Midlands?

jodee · 23/04/2003 22:00

My current fave is D&G Feminine, followed by Clarins Eau Dynamisante and Clinique Happy.

years ago I used to wear Dior Poison day and night, can't abide it now!

clucks · 23/04/2003 22:28

Most give me headache, except eau dynamisante by Clarins, but it goes off quickly.

Also like Caron, pour an homme aftershave which my father has been wearing for 30 yrs and it's lovely. Can only get it in France or Harrods though. Should try extract of limes or something because I seem to be better with aftershaves.

lou33 · 23/04/2003 22:36

Chanel No 5 for me and Romeo Gigli for dh.

Philippat · 23/04/2003 22:37

Only just remembered that I liked wearing perfume as I stopped when it started to trigger morning sickness (and dd is now 18 months, shows it takes me a while!). Cristalle, by Chanel.

Linnet · 23/04/2003 22:39

My favourite perfumes are L'eau D'issey, by issey Miyake and Amazing Grace by Philosophy. Unfortunately I've ran out of Amazing Grace and I can't get it in the city where I live so need to go shopping in the big city down the road before I can buy more.

I used to wear White Musk at school, I can't wear it now but it brings back some nice memories if I smell it. and I'm sure Dolce vita was a perfume that I bought in florida once years ago and it brings back lovely memories of that holiday, pre child days. Oh and I remember Charlie I was given a bottle when I was about 13 and used to wear because I thought it made me smell grown up, lol

leander · 23/04/2003 23:06

I love perfume, but my faves are Cashmire mist by donna karan,Dolce vita and Ghost, quite like cool water and cerrutti too.The worst ever has to be Poison, my cousin who used to work in a pub was asked not to wear it any more as it turned the beer flat!!White musk reminds me of school and Dewberry always gives me a headache.

Marina · 24/04/2003 09:53

Prufrock, I'm glad I'm not the only multi-perfume fiend...currently I am mostly wearing Acqua Allegoria (citrussy) from Guerlain as I find my all-time fave, Mitsouko (also Guerlain) too heavy and full-on while pregnant. I've made a small bottle of Jo Malone Lime Basil and Mandarin cologne last a l-o-n-g time and have also flirted with Eau d'Hadrien over the past year. Have been known to spritz with O de Lancome...there's a citrus theme emerging here.
www, I spent my teen years drenched in Charlie or the loathesome Cachet by that master parfumier "Prince Matchabelli". And did anyone else get stocking-loads of bl**dy Rive Gauche every Christmas?

WideWebWitch · 24/04/2003 10:00

I woke up knowing the name of the vile aftershave. It was Fahrenheit. Yuk! Marina, yes, I remember Rive Gauche too, isn't it still around and doesn't it have blue and black packaging?

Meanmum · 24/04/2003 10:14

Le Arte was my all time favourite by Givenchy. Whenever I wore it everyone commented. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be made anymore. I love perfurme even though I am extremely fussy about which ones I like. At the moment I love Romance for women although bought the Romance for men range for dh who never wears aftershave. I wish he did though. Also wearing Givenchy III which reminds me of summer and is my everyday perfurme.

lisac · 24/04/2003 10:16

zebra, you are not alone. I hate perfume, never wear it and object (usually silently!) to having other people's tastes imposed on me when they wear strong perfume in confined spaces (eg the office). I find it particularly bad when I am pg and very sensitive to smells.

Tissy · 24/04/2003 10:21

Marina, I love Mitsouko too, it reminds me of my grandmother! I am wearing Penhaligons Violetta at the moment ,as I changed over to that when pregnant, and dh bought me a huge bottle, so have to use it up!

SamboM · 24/04/2003 10:56

I only ever wear Chanel no 5. Boring I know, but I've tried others and don't like them

CAM · 24/04/2003 11:24

Currently givenchy, love their men's on my dh too. In fact, dh has a larger collection than me at the moment. Went through all the phases including Opium in the 80's, the heavy musks are all coming back into fashion now. I always wear perfume. don't feel dressed without it although I know sometimes I overdo it when people start coughing nearby!

sprout · 24/04/2003 11:49

In general, I hate it: gives me a headache. Body Shop white musk is an exception. I suppose it makes life less expensive not yearning after designer scent ...

Bozza · 24/04/2003 12:11

I love perfume (that and my matching underwear ). Currently have got on the go Diesel (for everyday), Coolwater - Davidoff, Ultraviolet - Paco Rabbane, Paul Smith for Women. And yes we had a mad white musk craze at out school. Then in later teens used to wear YSL - Paris. I've had loads of others but do remember a Jean-Paul Gaultier phase in my early twenties. Obviously can't afford to buy perfume to that extent but all of the above have been pressies from dropped hints (two my choice and two surprises).

I only ever wear Jo Malone 154 and am completely addicted to it. Like Mrs Thatcher, my mother only wears L'Air du temps.

layla · 24/04/2003 14:33

here

bells2 · 24/04/2003 14:39

It's the most gorgeous stuff layla and highly addictive. She has three shops in London (Royal Exchange in the City, Sloane Square and off Bond Street). She also does mail order and has a website (jomalone.co.uk) but I would really recommend you try and get to a shop.

oxocube · 24/04/2003 14:43

Love Chanel 19 and Givenchy III. Isn't it wierd how some perfumes smell fab on other people but really yucky when you spend 30 quid on a bloody bottle to treat yourself! Or is that just me?

BigBird · 24/04/2003 14:56

School : White musk

layla · 24/04/2003 15:00
