How long did you hair fall out for after pregnancy?

Well, that really. Mine's been falling out for about 6 weeks now and is getting worse not better. Its about half as thin as it is normally. Am I going to go bald or should it stop soon?

Hate to say this to you but my dd was born 1yr 1 month ago and my hair is still falling out. Only now I have new growth that sticks out all over the place.

Having had 3 kids I knew about hair falling out but my hair is a quarter of its thickness from pre children.

Kelp tablets are supposed to be good, 2 friends have reccommended them to me from their personal experience. Holland and Barretts have them.

I hope your luckier tham me. The doctors say's it really is temporary and women rarely go bald. So lets hope we are not to rare

I think it can last for up to a year. A friend had this quite badly and went to her GP who said that it would stop after about 12 months, which it did. Try not to panic though - I think it is supposed to only be the hair that you didn't loose during pregnancy. You have probably got used to having thicker hair without realising it - I know I have now (31 weeks pg) and mine usually falls out around my hairline and then regrows a few months later giving me a rather attractive fringe. HTH .

my dd is nearly 5 and my hair is still falling out. Not as badly as it did at first - I guest the worst of it probably laster 12-18 months.

Mine fell out quite badly until I stopped bf about 10 months, however it is still falling out but not as bad as it was (13 months).

I am 4 and a half months since having baby. Hair noticeably losing when in the shower and on pillow in the morning. Went to GP last Friday as have 2 thin patches on hairline near temples. Am waiting for results of blood test to rule out thyroid problem.

Mine doesn't sound as bad as yours Flossam, so it may be worth getting checked out. Stress is also a factor in losing hair.

I am toying with the idea of getting my hair cut mega short but dh reckons this will make it more obvious. Will see how it goes for a few weeks maybe...

Don't know about you flossam but it has made me feel a hell of alot better knowing that we are not the rare women who do go bald and that there genuinely are other women going through the same thing.

Queen Eagle I've had the bald (well amost!) patches at the temples since I realised I was loosing so much. The thing about stress is the problem see. The hair loss started as soon as I got a letter saying our rented flat was up for sale, resulting in us moving next weekend. Stressful day yesterday and today I am getting clumpfuls .

God a year or more of this? Think I'll shave it all off and wear a wig!

Sahara, I'll feel grateful when I feel certain that I won't be having to wear sun potection factor 50 on my head this summer! I will try the Kelp, too, thanks for that I'll look out for it today.

Flossam, thing is you notice you're going a bit thin then a couple of clumps, get stressed out about it and it makes it worse. Vicious circle and hard to break out of if you have other stresses such as moving to contend with. Your hair should start to settle down once you've moved and in next to no time you'll be wondering what you were worried about!

You could get your hair dyed or done in a radical cut so attention is diverted from it!

My hair was falling out for nearly two years after childbirth (perhaps worse if bf?) but then I read that eating more protein can help and I really think it did, over several months. They have got a shampoo in Lush which is supposed to be designed for new mothers who are having hair loss, but I have not tried it.

I didn't have hair falling out - I actually grew some new stuff! But then I am a bit weird, hair wise

My hair started falling out when DD was about 3 months old ... got really bad around 12 months ... and then started getting all the sticky out re growth thing going on.
15 months now and it seems to be sorting itself out.
You are supposed to lose 100 hairs a day normally you know. When you are pregnant that slows right down so when you are no longer pregnant it 'catches up' by losing the hair that you should have lost when you were pregnant ... hence the fact that it feels like you are losing so much after having your baby.
I was told that by my incredibly hunky and sexy (and straight ) hairdresser called Jock when he was massaging my head over the sink ... while I was daydreaming about eloping with him

Ohhh, I love Lush!! My mum's on her way up to see us for the weekend and I've converted her so I think a trip to there is in order this weekend (Although I do already have two lots of shampoo in the house, but this is for a good reason, right?)

My ds is nearly 1 and I have only just stopped blocking up the plughole when I have a shower. I was really beginning to worry that it might have been someting worse, but luckily it has stopped now. Where so much fell out I have a band of 2 inch long fine hairs all around my hair line - looks very strange when you know it is there, nobody else seems to have noticed though (I hope)

Bagpuss30, my hair has also fallen out around the hairline -also have an attractive mini-fringe. Don't know how long it takes to stop falling out though, sorry. I hpoe it soon though (dd is 5months old), as I'm forever hoovering up the hair. Also had a blocked plug in the bath. Also dd keeps grabbing hair as a fun game which is not helping at all.

Mine was falling out til about a month ago, my DD is 9 months now. I thought I was going to go bald too and was worried as alopecia runs in my family, I started taking a multivitamin as iron deficiency can be an issue.

I have to clean my brush out every time I use it as well as clear the plug in the bath . It's really annoying when it gets in the dinner - uurrgghh!

started falling out with a vengeance when ds/dd were 4m. dd is 9m now and the rate of loss is much less, but i'm still shedding a little.

My hair started falling out when i began to wind up the breastfeeding, around the time dd was 5 mths old. It then fell out so much dh went mad because it clogged up the plughole and just lay around the floors in clumps! Nice! Now i have a really attractive 'eighties fringe and fluffy mohecan (sp?) which has been growing out for what seems like an eternity. Now I have gone and got preg again and have decided i will invest in some hair extensions next time as i can't cope with another year of fluffy regrowth so soon!
