Google the number. There are sites that collect them so you can find out who they are and call their head office to complain. I believe that you can also report them on the TPS site.

If they are places you have ever done business with they will regard that as justification and it isn't.

Also BT may block them for you if it gets too bad so it's abusive.

Of course having told them you are on the TPS list they are fair game if you want to wind them up. Maybe they will get fed up of being left to talk to themselves or being given a lecture on how annoying they are.

Oh I had this with a call centre in India. I managed to find the parent company and phone them to tell them never to call me again.

The guy on the phone asked me my name and I replied "pissed off of Buckinghamshire"

They actually never called agai.

Thanks so much for this.

Its a call centre in India, "Pamela from SKY" to be precise, calling to ask whther our SKY box is working.

I have told her several times in varying degrees of politeness to b*** off BECAUSE

We don't have SKY, never have had, never will have and I would not want her contacting me if ever we did. You get the drift.....

Did ask for her manager once but he barely spoke English either.

Will try and get their number next time.

I think it's not illegal to call when on the TPS if the call is made from outside the UK. That's how I've rationalised all the calls from Indian call centres I've had, anyway.

But presumably if the registered office of the company is UK, they would have to follow the UK rules?

How annoying - definitely dial 1471 next time. I just get recorded messages from witheld numbers and phone calls for someone who must have had our number before BT assigned it to us
