The english language, what has happened to it "anyways"!

If i hear one more person say "anyways" i am going to scream! Its got to the point as soon as i hear someone using this word, i immediately wait to see what the last letter is going to be, a y or an s. "Going is another one. I am gooeeen to the shop. Are you commeeen with me? Arggh

And last but not least, the use of like. This word is riddled in usually younger generation conversations. Like, i was like, you know like, well, it was like this. Double arrgh.

Anyone with any similar bugbears? Oh yeah, my favourite, "at this point in time". WHat DOES THAT MEAN???? At this point in time. Everybody uses this particularly politicians. Do they think that time stops for a point? I dont get it.

Today, on the news, I heard "A first floor flat was hit by a car that lost control"

The car lost control - what of? It's driver?

I hate like. Esp when used in conjunction with the very very irritating habit of the upwards inflection at the end of the sentence as used by most teenagers today. Makes everything sound like a question and should only be used by antipodeans.

Have not heard anyone say Anyways though.

I hate it when someone uses the term "could of", as in "I could of killed him" instead of "could have". I am currently curing ds of this, a habit he's picked up from school.

Oh and saying drawing as if it had an 'r' after the w. I HATE drawRing.

And yes, highly irritating. BUT, she is only talking that way because they all do. Like me really.....the amount of time I find myself reverting to baby language and I hate it, but I don't even realise I am doing it half the time!!

I am always correcting my dd because she picks up all sorts of oddities at school and I can't stand it . Example : That will learn him a lesson - fgs I thought they were taught - grrr. The other day one of the mum's was kindly offering to lend me a book to help with an interview I was attending. I had to stop myself correcting her as she said "I'll borrow it to you if you like". Why do people get borrow and lend and learn and teach confused???

Horrible americanisms like "verbalise" and "timewise".

Double negatives are my pet hate - I can currently overhear a collegue who says " I no nothing about it" on a regular basis. Makes me want too screeeeam....

My other pet hate is " I am going down the town" or "I am going up the park" - what happened to the word "to" as in I am going to town/park!!!

I hate 'like' especially when said like a question? All the time? Very student or american way of speaking that my sister uses? grrrrrrrr.

People who miss t's out of words: war-oh (water) etc etc

Privacy pronounced PRYvacy got to me when I was a little (snobby) girl.. because the proper English way darling is privacy as in a lower case i lol
