Am thinking about going back to the gym - used to go a couple of years ago. I phoned them up today and they want £20 set up fee and £27.20 a month thereafter.
Just interested to know how this compares to other people.
Thankyou.

I've just joined Virgin, it's 48 a month for me (student membership) and 14 for ds. It's fab though, I'll spend too much time in the jacuzzi then exercising . No set up fee.

M1SSUNDERSTOOD · 17/04/2009 18:28

Seems reasonable. My membership is £26.00 a month and to break even you would have to visit twice a week. There is also an induction fee of £10. However this entitles you to use all of the leisure facilities inclusive of pool, aerobic classes etc.

Beetroot · 17/04/2009 18:31

mine is free with work

PheasantPlucker · 17/04/2009 18:34

£39 per month.

And I last went....ooohhh... in January

Sparkler · 17/04/2009 19:06

Thanks guys. Gives me more of an idea.
The membership would entitle me to use of the gym and all the excercise classes in the centre plus two other local centres. Also includes swimming in the other two centres which have pools.

I think we have the most expensive hum on the world. Our family membership (covering all four of us) is £270 a month! There was no joining fee though (I like to pretend that makes it better).

Sparkler · 17/04/2009 19:13

Blimey Artichokes that's a fair old whack each month. LOL at the joining fee!

I pay £77 a month OFF PEAK. David LLoyd. Hate them with a passion as are money grabbing at every opportunity. They now are charging guests £7.50 entry to enter the bar/restaurant. So this means that when I take my mum for lunch, she has to now pay £7.50 for the pleasure.

Obviously we won't be going there now

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 17/04/2009 19:14

OMG!!!

I can use any virgin gym, ds can use the creche for 2 hours a day, as much use of the pool as he can muster, excercise classes, pool, jacuzi, sauna....

£270 is a small fortune!

Dozymare · 17/04/2009 19:21

Fluffy - so yuo don'thave to pay for the creche?!

On top of my £77 a month off peak. I also have to pay £5 per hour for the creche.....so if I go 3x a week, that increases to £60 extra a month....

I don't have gym membership but a good friend has just been touring all of the local ones (Herts) and told me all about it.

1 charges £55 per month (but was very poor in terms of facilities)
2 charge £76
1 charges £120 (justified the extra ££ to my friend on the grounds this 'kept out the riff-raff').

All except one of these have swimming pools.

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 17/04/2009 19:33

Nope, ds (he's 10) gets 2 hours a day where he can go and leave me/do an excercise class. The staff seemed really good with the children aswell. I do pay 18 a month for this though but the kids pool is fab and he can use it as much as he wants. I suppose if I was paying £5 an hour for the creche it would cost me £70 a week! I can go to as many classes as I want, the machines are fab. I can't wait. They do lots of things in the school holidays for the children, ball pit/soft play etc.

stillenacht · 17/04/2009 19:33

57 quid a month

bellabelly · 17/04/2009 19:39

Oh my god, can't believe the variation! - at my local virgin gym, you have to pay really steep creche fees or pay a monthly fee for your LOs and then pay a slightly reduced fee each time you use the creche! I stopped my membership because I wasn't finding time to go in the evenings and the creche fees were just too much for us to pay. My monthly membership fee was approx £70.

bellabelly · 17/04/2009 19:40

And my boys are both under 3.

Habbibu · 17/04/2009 19:41

£10 a month at work (Uni) - we're very lucky, as it's a national sports institute!

The kids habe a very good mini active programme which we pay £7 eac a month for. Our baby (5 months) has to go into the Asquith creche which cost's £5. Can't do kids activities until the are 2.

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 17/04/2009 19:45

I'm in Derby, we have several gyms as we are all slobs so maybe this has something to do with it. There were not many people there when we went yesterday aswell. I think it depends on how old your dc are. Ds is 11 so needs less staff/care then a baby, in another 12 months he'll be able to use some of the gym equiptment with me so won't need the creche at all. Maybe it's down to this??I have full membership which should be 56 but as Im a student I pay 48.

Dozymare · 17/04/2009 19:47

I am within the M25...so South of London...expalins it all really....

Remotew · 17/04/2009 20:02

Mine was £19 a month for me £12 for DD. Just cancelled it as we kept making excuses not to go!. DD has another interest and I can go to a posher one with my sis on a casual basis.
