just a little comment really .
we went to the hillsborough yday it was a beautiful day, and thought how amazing it was that all commumtiys came together.
wer wore our liverpool shirts and there were evertonians chelsea , manu fans there etc.
there was not a dry eye there. how amazing it is that they are not forgotten, around 30 000 were at anfield yesterday they were only expectng 10,000.bt also how sad its refreshed in our minds again and grown men were sobbing .

my dad ws at hillborough that day, i remember the panicking as we phoned the number in search for him.

do you still buy the sun, it is well and truelly banned from our house , with its lies and disgusting behaviour

Oh dear I expect a beating ut

never bouht it but Dh works for them (sorry).

In his defence though he works for almost all papers (a certain contract), never knew anything until yesterday abut this and is duely disgusted, and likey about to be amde redundant anyhow.

If anyone brought that apper into my house knwoing what I do now I'd be very but in terms of paying the bills have to be pragmatic. And hope another job comes along for dh.

BitOfFun · 16/04/2009 14:29

Similar experience to you - and no, I would never buy the Sun.

Pinkjenny · 16/04/2009 14:30

mayorquimby · 17/04/2009 13:38

i do buy the sun on occassion after a big match or weekend of sporting activity as i know the majority of the paper will be devoted to it.
i just honestly don't make that much of a passionate connection between the actions of those running the sun 20 years ago with the the people currently writing for it so have never seen the need for a modern day boycott.
i'd imagine if something similar happened today then i'd embark on a life time boycott as it would be more relevant to me.as it is i was 4 when it happened so didn't become aware of hillsborough and what it meant till much later in life.
that's my honest assesment of it, it's in no way meant to excuse the actions of those who alleged liverpool fans robbed their own and desecrated the corpses of the dead that day. but i'd hold them personally responsible rather than the modern staff.

I don't buy the Sun or any News International paper, but that's because they are shit and have a horrible ethos. WRT Hillsborough it has no particular effect on me.

Pinkjenny · 17/04/2009 14:37

Lucky for you solidgold.

ElenorRigby · 17/04/2009 14:46

I would never ever buy the sun.
I'm a mancunian who loves a scouser btw

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 17/04/2009 14:55

I don't buy News International publications either. The DCs godfather is a Scouser and he and his family still boycott the Sun.

ElenorRigby · 17/04/2009 14:56

Tis a bit like Romeo and Juliet

Pinkjenny · 17/04/2009 14:58

Ha ha, I'm sure it is!!

ElenorRigby · 17/04/2009 15:08

but seriously DP and I have been really angered and upset by the cover up and smears that happened after Hillsborough- absolutely disgusting.
I saw heysel on the telly and then I saw Hillsborough. It was obvious to me as I watched with my mum that sunny April day that the two were completely different and yet the police who were there kept ambulances off the ffing pitch saying Liverpool fans were fighting
Those poor people were failed by so many and then insults were piled on the injury. Horrible, terrible, disgusting
I would love some to live to see justice but sadly I dont have much hope

Pinkjenny · 17/04/2009 15:11

It was sad to watch the memorial and see all the family members, all getting on in years, still looking so bewildered and devastated.

Lots of people have said when Andy Burnham started talking, because it wasn't in the itinerary, they all assumed he was announcing that the inquiry was to be reopened. No wonder he got booed. What did he expect?

abraid · 17/04/2009 15:15

I was listening to the father of those two teenage sisters who both died. They hardly seemed to fit the Sun's 'picture' of drunken urinating fans, did they? They were pretty, bright, girls with promising futures and parents who loved them.

ElenorRigby · 17/04/2009 15:18

Thing is if a Labour government won't seek justice I can't see a Tory government doing so.
The whole climate in the country atm is for people not to take responsibility, a culture of no blame and no justice. So sad...

donnie · 17/04/2009 15:22

I have never bought the Sun and never will. Apart from being too intelligent to read that monosyllable drivel, I also object to morally bankrupt parasites like Mackenzie and Murdoch.

Hillsborough - just another in the long line of revolting filth published in the British red tops. Same old, same old.

monosyllabic

Flower3545 · 17/04/2009 15:32

We are a footie fans and we used to have the Sun delivered. We no longer have it delivered and haven't since that dreadful time when it became clear that lie after lie was being spouted and called reporting

If Dh has been working away and hasn't been able to get his usual paper he does without rather than buy that dreadful rag.
