Can anyone remember earlier family forums on the web to mumsnet?

...because I think in about 1998-ish I actually broke one by being soooooo boring. And I can't for the life of me remember what it was called. It had "family" in the title though.

It was quite similar in format to MN, but obviously less sophisticated. There was quite a lot of anti-immigrant daily mail type stuff, and I remember becoming convinced that the BNP were using it as a platform, so I spent hours in tedious debate under various pseudonyms trying to hold back the neo-nazi tide until the hundreds, if not thousands, of people using the board seemed to just stop posting and go elsewhere, probably worried about asking about teething for fear of inciting a debate about Aryan supremacy...

Perhaps this forum's demise actually helped mumsnet to form? Does anyone remember, or have any similarly cringe-worthy tales from the early days of the Internet?

There was UKParents. And Hunnybeez.

Hmmm, UK Parents...that's a possibility....

In my troll days when I was 13 I used to go on a chat room, can't remember what it was called but they were all american (this was 10 years ago)

BitOfFun · 15/04/2009 12:26

What sort of trolling did you do? I bet you didn't bore them into obsolescence...

Ohh I was a mother of about 8 kids and would reel off their ages and how me and my daughter were pregnant at the same time I was clearly bored myself...it's no wonder I didn't get good GCSEs haha

Back in the day, ooh, probably around 1997 or so I used to post on the Line One forum. It wasn't a parenting site but I was so, so addicted. Obviously this was in the days before broadband and I ran up a huge telephone bill that resulted in me being too scared to connect to the internet for a long time.

BitOfFun · 15/04/2009 12:34

Gosh yes, I hadn't thought of that...it must have been dial up

I used to pay my mam £1.20 to go on the internet for 2 hours, when it was 1p a minute lol

Good grief, dial up. However slow my computer is now, I try and mollify my rage about it by remembering dial up speeds.
