What to give a lovely friend who's going into hospital

My dear friend is having a major op at the end of next week. She's a lady in her early fifties or late forties, no children, really sweet and kind and she brought me a present when I had ds2.

I thought about flowers but it seems a bit dramatic, she's very nervous poor thing and also not sure if I can plan it so her husband is around to forward them - they live a while away and I shan't be visiting, we're not that close.

So I was thinking about some lovely nightwear but don't know what she'd like, or toiletries etc but again, what would she want, if anything.

Any ideas gratefully received as I am lost! I've not been in hosp before, what would she like?

I haven't been in either, but would want something to relieve the boredom. If it were me I would enclose a nice newsy letter with photos of the children, a magazine, novel, lavender sachet for the drawers to banish that hospital smell, some handcream and tiny thing of shower gel or similar.. you get the gist?

Thankyou pud

Yes that sounds good, not sure what kind of book though, gosh I barely know anything about her. I love her to bits, just want to show it.

Send her a book token prior to her admission so she can buy some good pageturners to keep her mind busy!

Or some comfy PJs, maybe a basket of hand cream, body lotion and bubble bath? (hospitals are so warm your skin gets very dry).

Hmm maybe I will take a walk through M&S and see what stands out

I am getting more of an idea now, thankyou
