Just a general question, what age did you take your children to the cinema? was it successful?

If they can sit down at home and watch a complete movie without talking/getting up and wondering off/kicking things then they should be safe to go. It depends on your child.

I think my youngest was about 3.
She slept through half of it!

I think it depends on the child TBH. Some will happily sit through a long film others want to be running around after 10mins!
Depends on the film too.

We took ds (4.3) recently to see Bolt, he loved it, was a bit restless half way through but then settled again.
He wont sit and watch a film at home so not sure how representative that is

I think my boys were about 3 the first time they went. We took them knowing there was the possibility we may have to leave half way through should they play up.

We took DD1 and DS2 to the cinema when they were 4yo and it was fine. DS3 who is 5 yo has not been yet. I think it definitely depend on your child.

I think of two main reasons that made me wait more with DS3, he is not too keen on loud music and noises and he probably would ennoy people after a while as he would probably not like sitting for too long.

I took my daughter to see Shark Tale when she 2yrs old,she was surprisingly well behaved sat through it all and got up and had a little dance to the music at the end much to delight of other parents..lol..but it's true definately depends on the child and the movie

I took ds when he was 4, we sat on the end of a row incase he became bored. I've been in the cinema with 3 year olds sitting behind me, kicking the back of the chair, talking through it, shouting etc, I've also been in the cinema with 3 year olds who you wouldn't know were there. It depends on the child.

Some adults have been as bad as some of the children so it's not just a maturity thing.

another girls mother brought dd to the cinema a few weeks ago... she's 4.

no idea whether they behaved tbh... i didn't have to deal with it so don't care tbh

Nemoandthefishes · 04/04/2009 19:28

I am taking the dds next week for their first cinema trip they are 3.3yrs and 2.3yrs. Ds went for the first time last summer when he was 4

Seona1973 · 04/04/2009 19:51

ds has been the last couple of times to see Bolt and Monsters v Aliens - he is 2.5 years and was really good during both films. We did have the pick and mix and drinks to keep the kids quiet though and the cinema was quite empty both times too (lunchtime showings)

Eve34 · 04/04/2009 20:38

Thank you for that,I was thinking of going to see Monsters v Aliens. DS 2.5 sits and watches some things at home. Loves Cars and Babe. Wa thinking we would go in the day after easter hols, sit on the end of a row etc etc.
