Interesting question - cycle length v's pregnancy length

katzguk · 22/04/2005 09:08

we were having a discussion at work about period cycle length versus the length of pregnancy and found an interesting correlation.

Short cycles (24-26 days) = early babies
Long cycle (30+ days) = late babies
Normal cycles (28 days) = on or aorund due date

There were only 4 of us in the discussion so not at all scientific, so thought i'd ask the masses!!

me - 26 day cycle - 3 weeks early

It pdends on how often you have nooky! .

Serioulsy though, I knew when I ovulated becasue a) I was using the Ovulation Predicotr Kits that particular cycle and b) I always used to know wehn I ovulated anyway, as I got a particular pain in/near my ovaries.

Conception will occur within a day of when you ovulate, as the egg only survives 24 hours (I think).

So as long as you make love near to that time, that was when you conceive.

And if you don;t make love very often, you can even "know" which "deed" did it!

.... but sperm survives up to 5 days!

coldtea · 22/04/2005 13:42

28 days-both late, 1 induced.

Miaou · 22/04/2005 13:44

29 day cycle.
DD1 - 5 days early
DD2 - 8 days late

Make of that what you will....

I do know about the birds and the bees!!!! I just find it weird and interesting how people can tell. I just cant see how anyone can pin point the exact moment!! Ovulating and concieving are not the same thing, surely. Anyway I dont want to start a debate, just curious on peoples views

I know when I conceived DD has it was the one and only time DH and I ...you know... did it...in that whole MONTH! We were not getting along and were stressed out after the wedding. Dd was conceived 4 weeks after we got married.

paolosgirl · 22/04/2005 13:50

Long cycles always (35ish days) - ds was a week and a half early, dd was on her due date.

mumfor1sttime · 22/04/2005 13:53

That is what I call knowing when you concieved...!!!!

Prettybird · 22/04/2005 14:03

I itihnk most people use the term ovulating and conceiving interchangeably .

As it happens, in my case we had nooky in the same morning that the LH surge showed on my OPK - so the actual conception must have taken place within 12-36 hours after the actual ovulation (can't remember the exact guidelines for the Predictor) - but as we didn't "do" it again for a few days, I know for sure when the deed was done

mumfor1sttime · 22/04/2005 14:12

I guess we will never know exact time-it is nature after all! Yes you probably did concieve when you did your test, we will never know! Its nice to have a bit of mystery about it! All I know is that I came off pill and got very busy!

vicdubya · 22/04/2005 14:13

I knew exactly to the minute I conceived cos I had IVF.

DS was 2 days early.

WestCountryLass · 22/04/2005 22:38

I have 23-26 day cycles, my 1st was 6 weeks early and my 2nd was a week early.

zaphod · 22/04/2005 23:12

My friend has a long cycle and her 3 babies were over 2 weeks overdue.

hunkermunker · 22/04/2005 23:56

I ovd on day 13 on my first cycle of clomid - previously had looooong cycles (42-50ish days, due to PCOS) and DS was ten days late.

hunkermunker · 22/04/2005 23:57

And as for knowing when I conceived - yes, I know exactly as I saw DS as an egg on a scan earlier that day. It was my birthday

bobbybob · 23/04/2005 01:16

55-60 day cycle. Technically 3 days late, but paed said a week early based on reflexes. I guess that can prove or disprove the theory.
