Trinny & Susannah - 'Magic Knickers'

Anyone see the programme last night? I was interested in the 'magic knickers' that Susannah was modelling (basically like a good old fashioned girdle!). Anyone know where to buy them and (more to the point!) are they any good?

I've seen tham in black in M & S but don't know how good they are - she was really brave reveiling them on TV - very funny programme!!!

Theresa, yep, I've used these in the past and edgarcat is right - all the fat has to go somewhere, so often it spills out onto the bit above your stomach which is attractive There was a funny Smack The Pony sketch about it, a while back, anyone see it? Anyway, yes, they do work, they do make you look thinner and for a short while they're OK. For everyday use they're not IMO since I couldn't stand feeling that 'pulled in' every day. M&S do good ones which are also thigh and bum shapers.

My sister had these "hold it all in pants" (as she used to call them) for being a bridesmaid at my wedding, and after dinner, she could hardly breath, so she took them off... Later that evening, very drunk, she decided to show her knickers to my brother in law and his partner(they're gay so it's not as seedy as it sounds - and they'd never seen these type of knickers before) - and yes indeed - she had forgotton she had taken them off, so up goes the dress revealing all! Yikes!

Thanks as ever for all of your replies. I had them in mind for a wedding I'm going to. The dress fits but there's this awful tummy hanging out at the front. I can imagine they'll be uncomfortable after a while. I'll have a look the next time I'm in M & S anyway.

My Mum calls them 'tin knickers'

The all-in-ones are more effectve as there is nowhere for the fat to go. I wear them on occassion and feel really lean. Bugger going to the loo though.

MandyD · 15/04/2003 22:55

All-in-ones are great. Getting undone to go to the loo is great. Getting re-done-up to re-emerge to polite society is not!! Especially if you've had a few drinks during the evening

Rioja · 16/04/2003 07:49

I don't think they were the M and S ones - M and S ones are more like normal reinforced pants whereas the magic knickers she was wearing were much more impressive!!

Claireandrich · 16/04/2003 08:57

I have a couple for wearing under cocktail dresses from M&S. They now do a huge range in black, white and cream. They have 3 different 'holds' - light, medium and firm. They come in lots of sizes and different designs - for tummy, tighs, bottom, thong backs, combinations of the lot, etc.

I find them great under straight dresses but if I wear them for too long they can start to get a bit uncomfortable. Mind you, at DD's birthday I did wear them all day under fitted trousers and coped okay.

NQWWW · 16/04/2003 11:36

I used to have a pair which were much more "powerful" than the M&S ones - can't remember who made them but I think if you go to a large department store and ask, they will know what you mean. After a few washes they tended to roll down at the top, which gave a very unsightly line under anythnig close fitting. I was also very concious of them when dancing closely / anything more intimate.

Ghosty · 16/04/2003 11:42

This thread reminds me of that scene in Bridget Jones where she and Hugh Grant are in a passionate embrace on the floor and his hand moves up her leg under her dress and finds the knickers ... I think he says something like ... 'Interesting pants you've got there Bridge!' I would have died ....

sylvev · 19/04/2003 00:14

I too bought the M&S version but, sadly, couldn't get them on!! I took them back, bought the next size and again, after a dreadful struggle, failed to get them past my thighs. (I'm not really very overweight, about 1-2 stone). I then bought the big size and they fitted but did nothing to hide my flab.

From the WNTW website..."You can obtain 'Magic Knickers' from Bodie & Gibbs of Knightsbridge, London. The product is called Magic Slimshort and costs £28.50. For more information, telephone 020 7259 6620."

OOPS! Sorry for the double post

lou33 · 23/04/2003 20:35

Does anywhere sell ones that start under the armpit and end at the ankles? Am going for a knees up with Spacemonkey and don't want to be the ugly sister again!

lou33 · 23/04/2003 20:44

Has anyone tried these ?

tamum · 23/04/2003 21:06

Hi Lou33, I haven't tried them, but there was a rave review of them in yesterday's Times, which you might have seen. I am sorely tempted....

Moomin · 23/04/2003 21:44

I can definitely recommend the M&S all in ones. They have anti-vpl bums and underwired bra bits and they're fab. They stop the flab from rolling at the waistline and stop me from being a barrel-type shape and more of a Linda Green-type shape, which I'm chuffed to bits with. I've got 2 now and I wear them on work days. I definitely feel more confident in them. (I don't work for M&S tho, in case you were wondering...)

lou33 · 23/04/2003 22:38

Tamum that's the article that got me wondering. It's been thrown out now though, and I can't remember if you can buy them over here.

Moomin what sizes do they come in?

Moomin · 23/04/2003 22:49

Jumbo, Heffer and Gigantor.......
They do them by the bra sizes and the rest of the body is proportionate to what size your knockers are. They go up to DD cups (at least) and about 40 chest, I think, although I can't be certain. Mine are 38DD and they're dead comfy.
