The screw to undo the battery compartment may be down the funnel, IYSWIM

TsarChasm · 30/03/2009 21:23

Yes I think that's right.

I just said to DH, this is a thread that is just the essence of MN.

A toy

A mum at the end of her tether, trying not to throw it across the room

A DC going to wake up to the Brio engine still not working

MN to the rescue

SobranieCocktail · 30/03/2009 21:35

LOL MmeLindt

The engine was VERY close to having its tank brutally prised off with my teeth.

Imagine DS's sad little face when presented with the shattered casing.

Imagine now his joy when he sees that his clever mummy has breathed new life into his favourite train so she can spend the morning on MN.

Glad you found it.

But what on earth possesed the designer of the engine to hide the battery screw down the funnel?

He has been sniggering since, thinking about parents everywhere going mad trying to find it.

Reminds me, ours needs replacing (DD "Mummy train no go, daddy fix" Now why does she not think Mummy could fix it? ) Have just informed DH. Have not informed him of where to find the screw point

stealthsquiggle · 30/03/2009 22:11

Good for you, biscuits. All broken toys are "Mummy fix" in our house - fused electrics and leaking pipes are "Daddy fix"

Mindyou, DD(2.5) told me that the stupid annoying winnie the pooh 'phone "needs new batteries, Mummy. Here, Mummy" (shows me battery compartment)

It had it's batteries deliberately removed and will get new ones over my dead body sometime.

Dadsfixingeveryghing here (no mum around):
After seeing these creative screw heads, thinking "that can't be" and finding the solution here, I finally saw the instructions printed on the back of the locomotive.
So battery problem solved.
About the sound: Since I can't access the noise compartment due to the funny screws, I'm tempted to misuse a tiny screw and just destroy the loudspeaker (accessible through the grill on the bottom of the toy).
