What would you like to read about in a newsletter?

I have to produce a newsletter for a tiny financial organisation. It will go to approx 300 people of all ages who live in the local area but have nothing in common. 3 pages are fairly standard guff to do with the organisation but there is 1 page for me to put something else in and I don't know what.

Can't be controversial or political or advertising.

Previously it had stuff like helpful tips eg don't let sytrangers in the house or give out your details on the phone.

I am trying to think of something that might be a bit more interesting, maybe funny local stories or a recipe or a puzzle ???

Any ideas?

Do you have access to a newspaper archive? Could do a column on local history 100 years ago, pick something and reproduce it and maybe do a commentary.
Or profiles of local people - doesn't have to be prominent, just people who volunteer, the lollipop man, the vicar, people in the neighbourhood type thing.

Places of interest in the local area/free events and activities in the local area
News from the school
Profile of anyone famous who attended the local schools?
Phone numbers and contact details for all the local pharmacies etc.

Ooh I like the local history and pharmacies ideas - most of the people who will bother to read it are the older ones so may be most relevant to them.
