wel, after you kindly helped me on playgroup thread, how about wandering down Oxford Street and just letting her guide you to the shops she wants to go in. She'll probably want to go to H&M too

here's the oxford street guide (top shop should be in number 6 I think)

I find this one (scroll down for the guide) a bit easier because it's easy to find the shop you're looking for (assuming you know where you want to go!)

Few questions: you mentioned Waterloo...is that where you will arrive? What time of day? Will you spend the night in London, and return home on Sunday? (Trying to pinpoint just how much shopping/wandering time you'll have....)

I agree that the shops mentioned on Oxford Street are probably the way to go. BUT, I find that it's easy to get overwhelmed by the sheer volume of the crowds...but maybe I'm showing my age, and your babysitter will find that exciting?

where do you live? a shopping centre like bluewater might be better - all shops under one roof, also cinema places to eat all in one venue

oxford street has never seemed as busy since congestion charging (even tho it's not on the weekend)....I find even we steer clear and head out for the burbs for shopping now.

Anyway, I imagine a 16 yr old would love all the people (I'm a bit past all that hustle bustle but I doubt she will be!).

Are you heading straight to Oxford St from Waterloo?

Also may be worth considering Covent Garden which is between Waterloo and Oxford Circus. Agree with King's Road idea too. Doesn't have the big department stores obviously, but does have the same hip chain stores and won't be as crowded.

As far as someplace to eat....I've been told that there's a Carluccio's cafe somewhere near Oxford Circus. Don't know exactly where, but would be worth looking it up.

Also just south of Oxford Circus (Regent Street, west side) is the new Apple Computer store...and it is a cool place to pop into.

Yo Sushi! in Harvey Nicks is brill - all the dishes trundle around on a little conveyor belt and you pick off what you want. Rest of shop obviously v droolworthy too.
