Thanks, can't eem to find work at the mo and have a nearly 3YO son so thought I'd do summit useful and interesting with my time and maybe try this course out?

I don't know anyone who has studied with the OU and just wondered if they were any good, I think I'm eligible for funding etc so hopefully that won't be a problem.

Also has anyone done this course as a basis for Childhood and Youth studies?

Thank You

I've done this and 'Working with children and families'. I loved both of them and am now thinking of doing another module to go towards the degree now that DS3 is nearly 2.

I found the TMAs (essays) and lesson content very intersting and easy to manage, especially when I only had DS1.

Are you volunteering/working in the health/social care area? It helps, only so that you can relate what you are learning to what you are doing IYSWIM.

I worked with children for 4 years until 2006 then fell pregnant so left and then in FEb last year I worked as a care assistant until January when I got paid off.

I would like to get into social work and this seems to be the recommended course to start on.

Is it doable if you are not working in this sort of enviroment whilst doing it?

I'm going to start off with understanding children because it's a smaller course and I havent studied since I was 16 6 years on I'm not sure I have the mindset LOL but if I ease my way in I'll be fine I'm sure thank you.

I have thought about doing a course with ou, how many hours a week do you need to do?

SmallShips · 21/03/2009 20:54

I was going to start the very same thread with the very same course.

I'm about to start the intro course to get me back into studying then go on and do the whole thing, also interested in becoming a social worker.

Let me know how you get on.

I'm doing the K101 (the course you're thinking of). Started it last month.
