Something has been beeping several times per hour for the last week, but we can't work out what it is!

The smoke alarms are fine...... what else beeps like this, in your average family home?!

We just can't pin point it!

PuffTheMagicDragon · 18/04/2005 23:17

phone?

Bearess · 18/04/2005 23:18

we had this and eventually found a carbon monoxide alarm on top of the boiler in the kitchen, the batts were low. had been left by the previous owners.

Newbarnsleygirl · 18/04/2005 23:18

Phones that need re-charging, Burgler Alarms, Carbon Monoxide Detectors, Laptop.

We have a very beepy house

Aero · 18/04/2005 23:18

Can you hear the general direction it's coming from?
Could it be in the toybox for example.
btw - glad I noticed you changed your name - had no idea who bb was til the other day!!!

Linnet · 18/04/2005 23:19

Do you have a carbon monoxide detector?

mobile phone, house phone?

have you checked everything that contains batteries, games etc

coppertop · 18/04/2005 23:21

The carbon monoxide alarm did this to me about a week ago. It beeps every 30 seconds or so when the battery is running low.

BadgerBadger · 18/04/2005 23:23

(BEEP!)

Aero, I know, no subterfuge intended! I've slipped it in here and there, but seemed a bit rude to start a whole thread!

Right,

(BEEP!)
Toybox - clear

Smoke alarms - clear

Phones - clear

We have a paper carbon monoxide detector but not an alarm - clear

No laptop either..........

(BEEP!)

Aaarrgh!

OP posts:

could it be a digital watch?
If it goes off at the same time each night, try to narrow down where it is coming from by being near the sound when it is due to go off. You might have longer with the sound going and be able to locate it. Hopefully, whatever it is will run out of batteries soon but then you will never know what it was!

That would drive me nuts!

BadgerBadger · 18/04/2005 23:25

Linnet ..... everything with batteries?

OP posts:
BadgerBadger · 18/04/2005 23:28

I think I've found the culprit!

I now have it sitting in front of me........

OP posts:
Newbarnsleygirl · 18/04/2005 23:28

Go on...

Aero · 18/04/2005 23:29

drum roll please.................

binkie · 18/04/2005 23:29

what is it what is it?

is it an infuriating free personal organiser that came with a trial subscription to Which?

Aero · 18/04/2005 23:32

the suspense is killing me - i need to go to bed..............

BadgerBadger · 18/04/2005 23:33

I had thought it might be the doorbell .... the ding dong bit is a mobile one.....

But, the BEEPing has stopped!

OP posts:
BadgerBadger · 18/04/2005 23:34

BEEP!

Damn, BEEP is back and it wasn't the walkabout door bell thingy..

OP posts:
Aero · 18/04/2005 23:36

oh dear! Well back to the drawing board then! Don't forget to let us know when you do find the culprit!!

whatsername · 18/04/2005 23:39

Last time this happened to me it was the freezer telling me the door had been left open slightly.

BadgerBadger · 18/04/2005 23:42

Aero, I will! I think I've narrowed it down to the kitchen!

Watsername, I don't think my freezer is that intelligent

OP posts:
whatsername · 18/04/2005 23:44

I didn't know mine was either! That's why it took me so long to locate the beep

BadgerBadger · 18/04/2005 23:49

Whatsername, good point.

Another contender is in front of me, I found a spare smoke alarm in a kitchen cupboard!

This must be it.......

OP posts:
BadgerBadger · 19/04/2005 01:50

YES!! Phew

OP posts:
Aero · 19/04/2005 09:47

Hooray - I will sleep better tonight knowing that!
Ds1 has an alarming spiderman watch which goes off every hour or so, but as yet, I've never been bothered to locate it and crush it mercilessly by jumping up and down on it. I think he may have something to say about that. It only annoys me when I'm in the vacinity, then instantly forget until the next time........

coppertop · 19/04/2005 09:54

I see I'm not the only one who just had to find out what the beeping noise in the BadgerBadger house was!

Glad you found the bleeping culprit!
