Hi Misdee, we had them in our old place and used one of the traps - round plastic white thing that you leave where they come in and they love it - head straight for it and die!!

iota · 18/04/2005 21:02

misdee - ants are sooo last year - we'e doing carpets beetles this year.

misdee · 18/04/2005 21:03

i dont have carpets so am exempt from carpet beetles lol. we do have woodlice as well tho.

carpet beetles ate my ds1's school polo shirt last week - not having carpets is no barrier.

BTW we have ants as well AGAIN - are using traps - plastic squares about 2" square - I think dh got them in B&Q

bubblerock · 18/04/2005 21:08

What are carpet beetles?

iota · 18/04/2005 21:14

well you might ask BR - have a look

SaintGeorge · 18/04/2005 21:19

How are you doing with the little beasties iota?

iota · 18/04/2005 21:21

it's very quiet on the carpet beetle front, but after that sudden onslaught, i am convinced that they are regrouping somewhere and are about to eat the contents of the wardrobe in the spare room.

and yourself SG?

SaintGeorge · 18/04/2005 21:23

Found one this weekend in the bath again - they seem obsessed with the bath so presumably they are at least clean little beasties.

iota · 18/04/2005 21:29

can't be anything edible in the bath though - or is there? - wonder what the attraction is

SaintGeorge · 18/04/2005 21:33

I think it's more the fact that there is an extractor fan in the bathroom - think that might be where they get in.

Plus they are easy to spot in the bath. I see the slightest fleck of colour against the white and I'm in there inspecting for wildlife!

iota · 18/04/2005 21:38

LOL - look out for spiders

SaintGeorge · 18/04/2005 21:41

Oh I like spiders, they are welcome.

I have one particularly large one living on the kitchen windowsill. Saves using chemical fly sprays.

bubblerock · 18/04/2005 21:43

I don't like anything crawly!! Especially spiders - shivering just thinking of them.

iota · 18/04/2005 21:44

can't agree with you about the spiders -they give me the creeps. However dh is a dab hand with the fly swat, so I don't need them

iota · 18/04/2005 21:45

bubble - did you see the carpet beetles on the link?

TinyGang · 18/04/2005 21:47

The ants here seem to positively thrive on Nipon. Three year old ds and dd head towards my little tinfoil plates of the stuff without fail.

Wish I hadn't just read about iota's carpet beatles .. I saw one today here and wondered what it was.

I think it'd just wandered in from the garden though - probably heard from the ants that this is the place for a nice blob of Nipon.

We have both ants AND carpet beetles... surely that's unfair?!

iota · 18/04/2005 21:57

ah Georgina - welcome back to Antville. And yes we have both too

GeorginaA · 18/04/2005 22:05

We've been back a while unfortunately. Nippon I think they're just getting high on this time around. It's been down 3 weeks now, but I do think we're starting to see less of them.

Can't seem to get the buggers to go in the traps this time around though - they look untouched?! Last year's Nippon was red whereas this years is a clear/slight tint of green colour - not so tasty perhaps?! Mind you, I think it took a good month to eradicate them last year.

Joy.

TinyGang · 18/04/2005 22:09

Agree Georgina, it does seem to take a long time to work. Mines been down for a few weeks now although I must say at last today there haven't been any around.

Judd · 18/04/2005 22:13

Oh phew, I'm not alone! Our ants are responding vaguely to Vapona and not at all to the white square things. I've even resorted to picking them up and putting them in it!

pepsi · 18/04/2005 22:14

get a couple of those ant traps and use the nippon gel. they should all gather around it in the hundreds but it will work. My ds did suck one of the traps a fews years back which sent us into blind panic, called doctors who called the poison unit, but they said even he if had a teaspoon on the stuff it wouldnt hurt him so not to worry. Good luck.
