Ideas for things to put in an 'adventure kit'.

We've been invited by a collegue of dh's to join him on an all day drive into the middle of nowhere. We'd really like to go. The only slight issue is that it won't be dd's idea of a fun day, stuck in the car all day. There will be lots of stops to, erm, admire all the nowhere, and we'll stop for a picnic lunch, but there will be lots of being in the car too.

I was thinking that I could make her an adventure kit. So far I thought I'd put in

Binoculars
Magnifying glass
A treasures box (for putting interesting stones and leaves in)
A bug examining jar (aka an empty jar)
Maybe some sort of check list of things to see? (But she gets travel sick so lots of reading not a good idea).
Maybe a disposable camera?

Can you think of any other good ideas to put in?

She's nearly 3.

Colouring books and crayons?

CD's with songs or stories - if they can be stories about going on an adventure then even better!

Both good ideas.

I think if we really engage her with the idea of going on an adventure she'll enjoy it more.

Put it all in an 'explorer's' rucksack (Is she into Dora - I think you can get one like hers) How about some 'emergency rations'?

Torch

Some brilliant story tapes for the driving (I can recommend some brilliant ones if you like)

Think of a list of things for her to watch out for and give her 10p for every one she sees.(Bribery works every time).
