So far we will only be making money from the fee paid by each quiz team....how else can we generate cash from a captive audience on the night? I seem to remember something about an 'envelope' game but have forgotten the details and can't find the thread when I search......

Raffle
Food
Drink
Bonus quiz sheet (extra £1 for another prize)

MaplePecanPlait · 02/03/2009 19:25

er sweep stake - bit of betting on the winner??

Rubbish idea - getting desperate.

Like Marys idea of food - can you get pub to donate chips for each table or something and include this in the ticket?

MaplePecanPlait · 02/03/2009 19:28

DH suggests a star question - along the lines of everyone puts a £1 in to guess something no one knows the answer to ie. population of USA. The winner gets half the money, DH says this needs to be a written answer!!!!

PandaG · 02/03/2009 19:28

does it have to be held in the pub? can you do it at school and get a licence - not too much faff and a £20 ish fee - then you can sell the drinks and earn on those too.

or if in pub yes see if pub will put on chips and sandwiches for free/v cheap, and bump up entry price accordingly

Heads and Tails?

Everyone puts £1 in to take part.

All stand and put hands either on head or bum (tail)
Coin is then tossed and if it lands heads and you have your hands on your head then you stay in.
Then you choose heads or tails again, and again the coin is tossed.
Evenutally you will come down to one winner who takes half the cash, the rest is for the school.
Very easy to organise, and does not take too long (prob about 5 - 10 mins)

heads or tails - everyone pays a pound and stand up. They then choose heads or tail (if heads put your hands on your head, if tails put your hands on your bum!) then the quiz master tosses a coin. If its heads all those with their hands on their head stay standing, all those with their hands on their bum sit down. This carries on until 1 person is left, they then win half the pot!

You could also do a raffle (one christmas fair we had an MOT from alocal garage, free hair cut and blow dry, sainsbury hamper)

Good luck, we had a quiz night last week and had great fun

TweetleBeetle Great minds!

Lol

Thanks for this - the PTA liked the heads and tails suggestion, also Maple's suggestion could work.

Cheers all

What about a silent auction if you can get some items donated?

MascaraOHara · 03/03/2009 10:47

or an auction of promises..

you know where people say they will - do your ironing or mow your lawn or wash your car every week for a month or whatever..

peasholme · 03/03/2009 10:52

I went to a (charity) pub quiz recently and they sell answers for £1 each! It generates a lot of money, though I was a bit shocked (quiz purist).

HMC · 03/03/2009 10:54
Shock

I kind of like the idea but......eek!

I quite like the selling the answers thing, you could maybe limit it to 5 answers per team though

Tommy · 03/03/2009 21:37

I've been to a couple of evenings and played this game. Don't know what it's called.

You put a bottle of whisky (donated by some kind person) and people have to roll pound coins towards it from a defined spot and the one who gets it nearest wins the bottle - all the other pound coins go into the charity pot.

It sounds a bit dull but it is really good fun - quite addictive - everyone always wants "one more go" to get their coin nearer
