My baby will be 14 months when we go on holiday- what do I take for him?

Nappies, UV swimsuit, hats, shorts and tshirt, shirts, sandals.

What else?

I reckon it's going to be a big list and he's only allowed 10kg! That's like, what, 3 nappies! And he's not allowed any hand luggage.

Where are you going and for how long? I assume you're flying?

mumbear · 02/03/2009 14:28

Where are you going? High factor suncream, and bear in mind if he has any milk or other food products they prob wont be availiable in other countries.

MumOfBaby · 02/03/2009 14:30

Cyprus- for our wedding.

For 2 weeks.

5-6 hour flight.

I can't wait, but terrified of forgetting anything for him! Should I take a couple of milk cartons? He should be off his baby milk by then. I was thinking maybe some fruit cups as they may only have chips and things- it's all inclusive, but it's 4+ star so should be ok.

Sunblock is a good point!

We took baby milk for a 13 month old. There was no fridge in the room so we couldnt have kept cows milk fresh. As long as hes not too fussy the food in the hotel will be fine. Food and drink weighs heavy and with all the things you have to take anyway it adds up!

Fimbo · 02/03/2009 14:37

I would only take a few nappies and buy them when you get out there. Also have a couple of hats as at that age my dc were inclined to pull them off and you don't always realise until its lost.

Have a fab wedding.

BooBooChicken · 02/03/2009 14:37

milk cartons may get taken off you if in hand luggage, i saw a lady ahead of me get them taken away.

Habbibu · 02/03/2009 14:39

Insect repellent spray and/or wipes. Books and small toys for the plane, plus buy a few snacks airside for him. Armbands? Muslins or somesuch to act as sunshade if he's asleep in his buggy.

Habbibu · 02/03/2009 14:39

Yes - you could buy milk airside anyway.

HeadFairy · 02/03/2009 14:40

I always thought babies had their own hand luggage allowance... I've always taken two bags on to flights, one for me and one for ds. Perhaps they were just being kind as they'd caught the frazzled look on my face (travelling with dh is stressful, never mind ds!)

MumOfBaby · 02/03/2009 15:18

He doesn't really like milk. Will he need it by then? He LOVES rice cakes, so I'll take plenty of those.

Love the muslin sheets idea!

Hmm... what else?

I feel like there's something obvious I've not thought of.

I would take more than one swimsuit - save you drying it in a rush or washing it quickly etc etc. I'm sure you've thought of this but as you don't menbtion it he needs an outfit for your wedding!

Also calpol - plenty of calpol - can you take that on planes ok?

Habbibu · 02/03/2009 15:25

You can only take sealed 100ml bottles of calpol. Again, I'd just buy it airside.

Longer cool trousers and a cardi/jumper for cooler evenings.

A small stash of tiny, new toys (that he's not seen before) in hand luggage that you can pull out as the fight goes on and he gets fed up. Then, keep them tucked away until the flight home so they are new all over again. Even a tiny notepad and a pen will keep him occupied for ages on a flight. (Your hands will get covered though!)

One of our very best purchases was a really, really tiny paddling pool (or tiny blow up boat). Its really good for keeping them stay cool and slosh about in when the big pool is busy or when you don't want to get in too.

Mini medicine kit for the flight (germolene, Calpol sachets). Big medicine kit for the main suitcase in case you can't find what you need.

Spare clothes for him.

The hand luggage weight allowance isn't too bad but you do need to take nothing at all for you

Congratulations btw!!!!

MumOfBaby · 02/03/2009 15:38

Thank you!

Northern- got his little paigeboy outfit, gorgeous. Got him 3 swim suits so far but I may even get more as it's 2 whole weeks.

Calpol sachets would be ideal!!

Definately need to take him a cardy altho it should be piping hot lol.

Great idea with the new toys and books- he'll love that!
