Dh and i have been invited to a fancy dress party with a MARITIME theme. What do I wear??? Not mermaid, I am feeling too fat. But something kinda sexy-ish without showing too much (maybe cleveage) Some ideas on the invite are Nelson, Jaws, Nemo, Ellen McArthur (don't want to wear yellow!!)

PLEASE MUMSNETTERS DO YOUR STUFF

I once went as caviar - black dress, silver spoon tied to a silver necklace. Easy, cheap and a bit cryptic

I love fancy dress! You could try charity shops for a dress. We go every year to a fancy dress Trafalgar Dinner, where it's naval uniform past or present or Pompey Tarts. Dh always goes as a Pompey Tart and I squeeze into his old navy uniform. Our friend always dresses up as Nelson, we drink loads, sing sea shanties and it's generally a fab evening.

Captain Pugwash?

OOOOH caviar, now that's an interesting idea. Are they salt water fish? I could make myself a cool 'hat' from an alice band with a foil silver spoon.

I went to a "Come as your initials" fancy dress party and went as Robinson Crusoe - really easy - cut odd and frayed trousers, likewise with shirt, hanky tied round mt neck and a straw hat that I battered up a bit and sandals. really easy and not hassle and I think it was pretty effective!
