DP was off work on the sick last month (for the full month) with sick papers from the doctors, SSP here is £75.30p but his employer AMAZON has paid him £15.08p for the entire month, when his sick paper run out a disission was being made of a shift change to work the hours of 8am untill 4pm monday - Friday.
whilst he was waiting for the desission AMAZON booked him out on holidays for 5days (which is full pay) it was a verble agreement.
this is not the first time they have made a mistake with his pay. in December (15th) (he wasnt off sick) they paid him £200 to last untill 28th Jan (it should have been around £900.)
now we have £15.08p to live on utill 28th March. DP has been on the phone to them all day, and is getting no where Citizens advice said they will phone us back on Monday and i have just put the last of our money in my electric meter, i have 4p of gas. im lucky i ve done a shop etc.
im really worried, i havent got a clue of what to do.
please if you have any advice it would be much appreciated.

thanx everyone.

I have read your post and am a bit confused as to what your DP should have been paid, and what he was actually paid.

If it is an employer mistake he should be on the phone with his manager, accounts department, etc.

CoffeeIsAMumsBestFriend · 25/02/2009 13:10

he should have been paid £315.18 and thats what AMAZON have come back with. he s been on the phone HR and they said its all delt with slough because theres no actual paye roll.
not sure where we go from here

sorry sammy k that i wasnt totally clear, i just typed it so fast i thought id put it!

chocolatemummy · 25/02/2009 13:11

if its down to employers mistake as sammy says, you need to get on the phone explain to them you have not even any gas and no monay to put i it and they needto send you cash immediately or go down to Job Centre and ask for a crisis loan? not sure what eligibility is but surely they will be able advise you Atleast? What about family?

KingCanuteIAm · 25/02/2009 13:11

Get all the facts and figures together of what you should have got and what you have got. Include details of everything you have in your account and note down what you have on you electricity/gas cards.

Go to your local Social security (or whatever they are now) and ask to apply for a crisis loan. Explain that, once the gas has run out you will have no heating or hot water for you children and that this is going to happen today. Hopefully you should get a loan today or tomorrow which will be enough to get you through a few days if you are careful. You will have to pay it back when he gets paid.

The major thing is that you can do this whilst your dh stays on the phone to his manager.

see here

even better, here you can claim oveer the phone.

rubyslippers · 25/02/2009 13:13

If he had the certificate why hasn't he been paid accordingly?

Of course Amazon have a payroll department - you need to find their number out

can your DP call HR and get them to rectify it, if it is their mistake

morningpaper · 25/02/2009 13:14

He needs to just keep on the phone to his employers, and not put the phone down, until this has been resolved.

notyummy · 25/02/2009 13:16

He needs to be chasing them up and speaking to his boss and pay roll at Slough. You should get some child benefit before end of Mrach , no? (Realise its not much at all) Can no friends or family give you a small v short term loan until the money comes through?

DP has to be proactive and voluable about sorting this out with employer.

CoffeeIsAMumsBestFriend · 25/02/2009 13:16

thankyou, they ve been on the phone DP and amazon, and they are now trying to say that it ll be sorted by the next pay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and apparently now he wasnt totally booked down as holiday for most of it on they're system it says he s AWOL !!!!????

OP posts:
CoffeeIsAMumsBestFriend · 25/02/2009 13:19

yeah its £19.82 child benifit a week amazon cant find the doctors paper and thats the 2nd one now, he s already had to go to gps to get a dup as they lost the first!!!
family can help but i cant understand why amazon cant say that they ve made a mistake and they ll sort it asap.
DP has tried to get hold of slough but with no joy im afraid

theyoungvisiter · 25/02/2009 13:21

I have no advice beyond what others have already said but I wanted to add - I am not sure it's a good idea for you to name your husband's employer this way - it's the kind of thing they may pick up on and it could complicate the matter.

I think you should consider getting MN to edit your post as it's not relevent to the issue who the employer is.

Has your DP asked his employer for a hardship loan until the matter is resolved? Some employers will do this month - to - month in exceptional circumstances.

EldonAve · 25/02/2009 13:23

He needs to keep hassling his employer - maybe get his boss to help
If they want to they can give him a payment at anytime - it doesn't need to wait til payday

morningpaper · 25/02/2009 13:26

What does his contract say? If it stipulates when he is to be paid then he needs to tell them that they need to make it right NOW. He just needs to pick up the phone and not put it down until this is resolved I'm afraid.

CoffeeIsAMumsBestFriend · 25/02/2009 13:28

thanx all for being understanding and supportive DP is going to phone them again now to try and sort it.

i ll keep you posted on what they gonna do.

thanx again girls!

Please consider getting their name deleted from your thread - it won't detract anything from the advice you get here and if his employers stumble across it they will have no difficulty in working out who you are and it may look bad - like you are trying to give them bad publicity in revenge, which could affect the way they deal with your husband.

There was a recent case where an employee of a well-known bookshop chain was fired for blogging about his employers without even using the real name of the shop - it was just inferrable from his remarks. There was no question that he said anything untrue but he was fired for bringing his employer into disrepute.

I'm not saying that would happen here but it would be awful if your post caused more problems for your partner.

theyoungvisiter · 25/02/2009 13:39

here is the case I am talking about

CoffeeIsAMumsBestFriend · 25/02/2009 14:32

hit the reed exclamation mark at the side of your posts, and in the box explain toMN

ProfYaffle · 25/02/2009 14:42

Speak to payroll directly, they should be able to sort out an emergency cheque. Keep hassling.

CoffeeIsAMumsBestFriend · 25/02/2009 14:47

just got off the phone to them and they have said they'll pay some of it next week but they can only pay a certain amount they wont pay the rest untill next moth as it will cost them with bank charges!!! but they know they owe a lot more!
what a cheek, its their mistake but because it ll cost to make another payment they dont want to!! so they d rather leave us with nothing!

OP posts:
Peachy · 25/02/2009 14:51

If they genuinely owe you speak to ACAS (google it and there's a helpline)

You'l get advice on reclaiming any costs as well, but do ask for advice

ProfYaffle · 25/02/2009 16:13

That's bollocks. I'm an hr bod, they have a contractual responsibility to get money to you. Large companies generally have a standard procedure for issuing emergency cheques (the type which clear immediately at the bank) and they should be going down this route with you. tbh errors are made with salaries all the time and fixing it is no drama, I'm mystified as to why this is a problem for them.

If they don't pay your dh they are in breach of contract, speak to his Union, speak to the CAB, spell out you are in financial hardship and need payment NOW. Next week or next month is not acceptable. They should also refund you any extra charges you incur with banks/credit cards etc
