Its something Ive wanted to do for a few years now. I keep coming back to it, and just think its something I have to do.

I need to find out loads more info but if anyone else does it, or has a partner who does it, what do you think?

Also is it wrong for a mother of two to want to join the TA. Dh thinks its totally inappropriate

Are you happy to be posted off to afghanistan or iraq? i think these days even in the TA its likely to happen bil is going.I personally don,t understand why anyone would want to join my dh was in the army for 13 years

I was in the TA when i was pre kids and b4 DH - was the best time of my life - excellent experience , great friends, best laughs and was soooo fit. The downside being its quite a commitment of so many wekeends though they like to to go out more - once a week on a night and a fortnight camp a yr plus 2 weeks intensive trg at the beginning like recruit trg but crammed into a smaller time frame. Everyone takes the pee out of you also and chances are you will fall for a hunk in camos It is hard work and you will be knackered too. Oh its great! How old are your dc? How old are you also as i have hankered into gooing back in but think the age cut off is 32 or 35 though im not sure.

Yes following on from snuffy when i was in it was a quieter time mostly irish troubles - chances are you could get posted somewhere not nice though would be your choice not forced like regular army - i know friends now who are still in and have gone to Iraq etc...

i just think its awful for a family to have to go through the worry of a loved one being in Iraq or stan and lets face it our soldiers are,nt very well looked after these days

nappy - arent you forced to do a tour in the TA's then? I thought you were! I have a friend who's in already and she said its something like 9 days a year compulsory, plus your 2 weeks training like you said

Snuffy - im a qualified nurse, with a critical care qualification also, which is why I would like to join the TA and possibly a short tour offering services in somewhere like Afghan

My dc's are 13 and 4, but Im 33 so running out of time! Have also thought about medical reservists, but unsure of the difference

Dunno what the regs are now btu back then no - im talking back 10 yrs ago - i had a full time job and no didnt have to do any tours - a few of the blokeys who didnt work put themselves fwd to do tours attached to a regular regiment and used this as a back door way to get inthe regulars also...

It was about 5 weekends you had to defo do and the 2 weeks. You got paid same as regulars and also a fat bonus every April.

Post on Forces Sweethearts board! I think if it's what you want to (really want to do) do it.

As a nurse your skills are invaluable.
