Is it alright to do this? I have something on Gumtree as I don't really trust ebay and paypal anymore as several friends have been stung. I have had an email from soemone who wants to buy but is at the other end of the country. Is it alright to ask for a bank transfer? I suppose its no more information than would be on a cheque anyway??

Yes except with those details they can set up Direct Debits from your account!

They'd have to forge your signature but it has been done!

Not sure I'd give anyone I didn't know my bank details.

Can't you take a postal order?

Blimey I hadn't thought about direct debits. I will ask for a postal order in that case. Thanks
