DD's fantail goldfish was just found "sleeping" upside town at the top of her tank...

I feared the worst and was about to take the tank out so DD wouldn't have to face the floating corpse in the morning. But once I made a noise dismantling the pump, she just flipped herself over and started swimming happily around the tank again.

What is wrong with her? Is she dying? DH is insistent that she doesn't have swim bladder disease, as she is fine most of the time, but she does have a tendency to swim upside down occasionally. He says she is just a weird fish...

Can he be right?

In my experience this is them on their way out but can take quite a while to happen. Not sure technically what it could mean tho soz.

I caught one of ours stuck in between the filter and side of the tank today it's seems ok now I've let it free but only time will tell I guess??

DH's goldfish started doing this three years ago, not long after his tank mate bought it. Went on for ages, we came downstairs every morning expecting him to be six feet under. After about a year of this he stopped doing it and has been fine ever since! Typical.

So that's no help to you at all...

My grandmother had a goldfish that did this - for some reason known only to her, she used to put a wee spoonful of whiskey into its bowl when it did this. Fish lived for fecking years but we reckon it was a drunk

Ah now mine alldid this and I thought were dead but Mother informs me (and sister,a vet nurse backed her p) that this often just emans they are overfed and lots of not dead fish are despeatched into the sweres to actually die every year.

Oops.

We no longer keep fish, we were- at best- a curse to the poor things.
