secretregular · 11/04/2005 21:21

don't you have to be a doctor as well as a lawyer to be a coroner?

mummytosteven · 11/04/2005 21:49

no it's either a doctor or a lawyer (but fraid that's all I know about being a coroner!)

secretregular · 11/04/2005 22:02

think i'm getting confused with patricia cornwell novels!

mummytosteven · 11/04/2005 22:04

did Kay Scarpetta do law school as well then - I remember her being one of two women in her med school and people not lending her notes when she was ill in one of the Patricia Cornwell books?

secretregular · 11/04/2005 22:08

yes she was a lawyer and a doctor. cornwell never really talks about her being a lawyer just refers to the fact she is in several books. Am a big fan but hated her last one

mummytosteven · 11/04/2005 22:09

yes, I'm not really a Lucy fan, and she's taking too much of a role in recent books. think the last few books after Point of Origin are a bit rubbish tbh.

She's becoming a bit "chief of the world" in the latest books!

CountessDracula · 11/04/2005 22:52

at the mo you can be lawyer or doctor to be coroner, they are about to change so you can only do if you are lawyer.

DH is medical lawyer

one thing I was wondering is whether your DH has had a chat with his firm about this yet - just wondered if being a coroner, given his line of work is med neg, would be likely to cause more problems re:potential conflict of interest than being a district judge

or is your DH thinking of leaving private practice?

CountessDracula · 12/04/2005 19:44

oh yes defo!
