Advice needed - redundancy, benefits and legal aid

I wonder if anyone can offer me advice on this? I'm being made redundant at the end of March, and rather than finding another job I am looking at becoming a full time mum instead in order to gain custody of DS (4yo, nasty divorce), and also to claim legal aid.
If I do this, can anyone tell me what I'll be entitled to from the state in terms of paying for my rent, income support, council tax and all that stuff? I'm currently getting nothing from DH as I'm currently on a 'good' salary.
I'm making an appointment with the CAB and also talking to my solicitor (hence the need for legal aid!), but thought I'd ask you guys, as some of you may have first hand experience.

Much appreciated!

You may find your redundancy payment puts you over the minimum savings threshold for claiming means tested benefits. Entitledto.co.uk will give you an idea of benefits but until you claim you won't actually know.

Thanks - I've just had a look and my redundancy doesn't even come close to the limits!
