thinking caps on please ladies, I need inexpensive ideas for a Las Vegas themed wedding

In September of this year. It'll probably be a fairly small wedding with a larger party after for the majority of our friends.

So far I have got as far as cake design & trying out a couple of red dresses although they were well out of my budget.

I am also making my own invitations but have yet to decide on the design for those.

Any suggestions welcome

really! At home or over there?

TrillianAstra · 09/02/2009 14:32

You can hire casino game tables (and people to run them) eg this (I just googled 'casino game hire')

I know my friend was considering it for his wedding, not sure how inexpensive it is though.

PortAndLemon · 09/02/2009 14:36

You need someone dressed as Elvis.

Proper casino hire used to work out around £200/table several years ago. If that's out of budget you could maybe set up a do-it-yourself version?

starbear · 09/02/2009 14:43

Go along to local pubs who have bands & singers on. We got a singer for about £200 5 years ago. Brill!

lucysmam · 09/02/2009 16:24

at home starbear, we can't afford to actually go to vegas!

You so have to have an Elvis!

What a fab idea. I went to a casino night at a cousins 40th wedding anni and really enjoyed it!

Fireworks are good too!

Will you ask for a dress code or is that taking it too far?

lucysmam · 09/02/2009 19:33

I was thinking about a dress code but wondered if people would think I was taking the pee maybe.

If not, I thought maybe black tie, the kinda stuff you see in Bond films where he goes to casinos.

What colours do you think I should use? I thought maybe black & red would be simpler than anything else for invites/tables/balloons and stuff like that.

firework idea is definately going on my list of things to look into

invitations in the style of a vegas Show ticket?

lucysmam · 09/02/2009 19:40

ooooh, like that idea. Just not that creative so maybe have to delegate that task (or at least the designing) to my oh

You could get married in vegas for less than £1.5k! All you need are flights, couple hundred quid for the licence and a week in a cheap motel....

DH's parents got married in Vegas. But...they were technically both still married at the time, so not sure it counts (shotgun wedding)

BCNS · 09/02/2009 19:47

What a fab and fun sounding idea for a wedding theme.. !!

depending on your budget there are lots of casino type themed things about

scratchcards for favours? or lotto tickets in a little gold envelope.

fattiemumma · 09/02/2009 19:52

i am really loving this idea.

Dp is Elvis mad and would love to get married in Vegas. my family simply wouldnt be able to come to a wedding abroad and i want a 2proper" wedding.
this would be a fantastic compramise

lucysmam · 09/02/2009 19:53

really pavlov???? tell me more . . . if you know how they did it, I'm all ears!!

BCNS, my budget is as cheap as possible, get married in the afternoon & party for everyone afterwards with one buffet type 'meal' rather than a sit down dinner

lucysmam · 09/02/2009 19:55

neither of ours actually would come to Vegas either fattie, but I'm not on speaking terms with mine anyways at the mo. We thought this would be a fun excuse to get everyone together for a party & get dressed up to celebrate

Lucy - serously, you do not want cheap motels...and, DHs parents got married there like 30 years ago...let me take a look for you though, as it is really not that expensive, they do drive through wedding chapels you know!

lucysmam · 09/02/2009 20:00

are they really that bad? I think it sounds quite romantic . . . a week tucked away with your new dh/dw

ok, so it will work out a bit more than 1.5k if you use these, but...this for less than £500 (i quite like the Pink Cadillac option myself ), then flights to Las Vegas from £339pp.

Gives you £141 on accommodation, which might be enough for a crummy motel afterall Or you could book something a bit more glam for a bit more money!

pavlovthecat · 09/02/2009 20:03

lucy - we did cheap motel in san fran, thinking it would be dead romantic, I always wanted to stay in a cheap motel in USA...it stank of mould, the floor was damp, it was just the grimmest...so grim I made DH take me immediately to a Marriott .
There is a good chain of motels called something like Route 66...basic but clean - my family use them all the time....that could be good...

lucysmam · 09/02/2009 20:08

ewwww, maybe I'll avoid the cheap motels then.

I'll have a look at that link now, thanks pavlov

pink cadillac! probably would be my choice as well, you've got me thinking now . . . may be more affordable than I first thought! I'm going to save that to my favorites & have a chat with my oh see what he thinks about it

OP posts:
pavlovthecat · 09/02/2009 20:16

motel6 is the chain of motels that my family use, affordable, and would give you the motel feel without the cockroaches!

Good luck, but failing that....agree with Elvis and a Casino table being a must for an English wedding....

lucysmam · 09/02/2009 20:36

they look nicer than most spanish hotels I've stayed in on hols. Will have a chat with my oh as I'm starting to think we could maybe afford Vegas after all

Thanks very much pavlov, you've given me lots to think about!
