Is it possible to learn to sew later in life? And how do you go about doing it?

To my shame, I have never really learned to sew. I rememeber taking a home economics class when i was young (in the USA) but I don't remember any of it. My mum sews well and has made all our curtains, duvet covers and such like. I soooo want to be able to sew stuff my kids want (dressing up, etc) but my Mum is not the patient type and learning from her would probably lead to us killing each other!

So, how would I go about learning now? Is there a class I could take?

I know our local college runs courses, just google sewing courses in your area or call your local college for a prospectus.

depends where you are - I've had an email from ICHF today offering classes, but they're nowhere near me.

best thing is to google - or look in a fabric shop (if you've got one - not many left!)
