Thank you all for supporting me after my horrible crash on Tuesday. Now I need you to advise or ask your partners to suggest a new car for me.

I would like a big diesel 2l or 2.5l
Needs to tow a big caravan of 1500kg
1-2 years old
Low insurance/car-tax group
Lowest price, not worried about make

I am considering a Skoda Octavia, Kia Sedona or similar.

If there are any finance deals available nationally, that would be good too.

Ford S-Max. Fab car.

Also Ford Mondeos are lovely.

I had a Kia Sedona and whilst it was large and comfy it had no oomph at all - I don't know how it would be for towing.

I've got a Toyota Corrolla Verso TD - very spacious and has some serious poke but turning circle of a Sherman tank....

GrimmaTheNome · 22/01/2009 20:39

we have a diesel toyota avensis each, not sure what ins. group and we don't tow, but they seem to us good value for money (thats why we have 2!)

Pacific · 22/01/2009 20:41

Are volvos not a bit expensive? Mondeo...any good deals on?

We just got a 2.0L diesel Citroen Picasso. I love it

Tax is £120 and insurance is group 6E i think.

thisisyesterday · 22/01/2009 20:44

hmmm well it depends on your budget. you can get a decent second hand volvo for around £5k (give or take a couple k!)

Pacific · 23/01/2009 13:06

Sorry. Didn't get back to this thread.

Budget is about £12-£15,000.

Phoenix, It was a citroen C5 that crashed. Agree....love the citroen deisel but the picasso is not big enough to tow the caravan. I need a big car, at least as big as the C5.

oh werll you'll easily get a volvo on that!

Pacific · 24/01/2009 21:02

I got my new car today. Erm, I am a bit frightened to tell you.......the mumsnet police might get me and I may never be allowed back on.

I've bought a big Nissan 4x4 and I live in a city, and I sometimes do the school run. Eek! Flame away. I can take it.

Put horsey stickers in the back and they will leave you alone!

ChippyMinton · 24/01/2009 21:23

a good tow car is the high spec diesel mondeo estate.

Pacific · 24/01/2009 21:29

Aah! Horsey stickers. Good idea!

Chippy, mondeo not powerful enough. Did look at them.
