baby car seat for Land Rover Defender - any recommendations?

DH drives a Land Rover Defender (one of those square box on wheels-type things).

Before you all start imagining we live on a private estate draped in Barbour jackets, until recently DH was a wholesale greengrocer - the back usually full of sacks of spuds, boxes of bananas etc.

Anyway ...

DS1 is due in March and DH is about to get the Land Rover garage to fiddle about the front seats, so a baby car seat can slot in.

He's planning to ask the garage if they can suggest any particular brand of car seat which will fit correctly - and I have also had a bit of a surf on the Land Rover enthusiast websites (lot of bewildering camshaft talk over there )

But I thought it might be worth posting here to see if anyone had any recommendations - I'd be really grateful!

Many thanks
MrsBaldwin

The baby has arrived - aided and abetted by the trusty Land Rover Defender, LR fans.

Click here for the birth announcement I've posted.

Those Defender details in full: I'd done the lion's share of the first stage at home - contractions every three minutes when we decided to head for the hospital.

DH packed me quickly on all fours (between contractions) into the back of the LR - he and the doula hopped in the front. I can't honestly say it was that comfortable riding up and down the speed-bumped hills of North London en route to the labour ward ;) (5 contractions in 15 minutes plus speed bumps, on a Defender's suspension - think about it) but in fact I couldn't have sat or lain down in a normal car at that point anyway, I don't reckon.

Contributors to this thread will be pleased to hear the baby car seat which has caused me so much LR-related investigation worked just great for the ride home with DS, again with me in the back, but this time not on all fours and with a nice baby tootling along in the front next to DH.

We are in a similar situation and our local bloke at the land rover garage told us about Exmoor trim (www.exmoortrim.co.uk/). They do a central seat 3 point seat belt designed for a defender! So happy!

Have registered just to post on this thread!!
Been googling for ideas how to fit a baby in a landy. Thanks for some good ideas. Looks like I'm in the back with the dog and baby rides up front.

Hi,
does anyone know if you are able to fit a primo viaggio car seat with surefix base in the front of a defender?
