Photos of your children on the internet ....

Would you put a photo of your 8 year old girl on the internet in the bath? My friend has and to be fair you can only see her upper body but I still feel a bit uneasy about it. I know it's up to her but it doesn't seem a very good idea to me.

I wouldn't but I feel very sad that I think that way

nannyL · 10/01/2009 10:32

it would depend where

on facebook where only my friends could view maybe

or random sights with free for all acess no

Hulababy · 10/01/2009 10:34

If access set for friends only on somewhere like Facebook - maybe, depending on the picture. I would probably be more likely to crop the picture to only show head/shoulders.

It is sad that we have to think this way.

nappyaddict · 10/01/2009 10:41

No access is available to anyone who happens to be looking on the particular site that it is on.

No

solidgoldsoddingjanuaryagain · 10/01/2009 10:48

I would. My DS is at far more risk of harm from crossing the road than from someone looking at a picture of him.

nappyaddict · 10/01/2009 10:53

I think it's a bit different if it's of a boy tbh.

No but mostly because of her age, I feel 8 is a little old to be sharing bathtime/toilet time etc type photos with all and sundry. i have no qualms putting pics of my ds (20mths) on facebook with friend only access but wouldn´t just post pics of him on random all-access pages. And beach/pool pics are cropped to belly button but again, more for his own privacy than fear of someone weird looking at it.

solidgoldsoddingjanuaryagain · 10/01/2009 10:54

Why?

Maveta · 10/01/2009 11:03

oh i don´t think gender has anything to do with it at all

mysterymoniker · 10/01/2009 11:06

are boys more vulnerable?

how sad that we are even having this discussion though

TwoIfBySea · 10/01/2009 13:12

No and simply because it will cause the child embarrassment.

I felt utterly humiliated when my mother insisted on showing everyone photos of me as a 4 year old sitting in the kitchen sink having a makeshift bath. You can't see anything but I absolutely hated it, I was a teenager at the time. Ended up sneaking the photo away and destroying it.

FrannyandZooey · 10/01/2009 13:14

if the girl does not mind then i think it is fine
no reason for an 8 year old to be embarrassed about this - unless she is self conscious i think it's really nothing to worry about

TWINSETinapeartree · 10/01/2009 15:22

No because dd would be mortified.

lljkk · 10/01/2009 19:04

Upper body, hmmm... DD (7yo) was wearing a bikini at swim baths today. It slipped up and you could see her 'nipple', but honestly, only if you knew what to look for. If the child is very undeveloped like DD, I don't think it's that ill-advised to let her be seen topless.
