Actually tidying up for once!

I wrote a cheque in 2007 to pay my daughter's nursery fees. The nursery lost it. If it was to turn up would they be able to cash it? Am I right in thinking a cheque written more than 6 months previously is uncashable? TIA.

I think you are right that it can't be cashed after 6 months. At least, that has happened to me when I tried to pay in a couple of cheques for building society interest that were more than 6 months old.

To be on the safe side, you could contact your bank and ask tehm not to honour it if that does happen-though they will proably tell you that such an old cheque would not be paid anyway.

You need to contact your bank and ask for a stop to be put on the cheque. In theory the cheque is out of date but if somebody pays it into their bank account and the cashier doesn't check the date they will just process it as any other cheque

I would hope that if the nursery found it, they would know not to cash it as my daughter has been a long time left. I will contact my bank just to be sure. Thanks.
