Ideas for a little girl's bedroom

Hi,

We're just about to start decorating our dd's bedroom. Originally I had planned yellow and lilac but as our bedroom is lilac and the hall is yellow it will look a little too coordinated. I'm now stuck for ideas. I hope to move house in the next two years so don't want to make the room too childish in terms of paint (so her favourite colour pale pink is out!). Any suggestions? Any websites anyone can think of?

Dds is pink (quite a strong pink but not quite barbie) and lemon, I painted stripes halfway up the wall with a 'border' (which was a painted pink stripe with lemon ballerinas stencilled onto it (Dulux stencils) above the border plain pink sponged with the lemon - I painted the ceiling lemon and brought this down slightly onto the walls - scalloped finish with a pink ballerina in each scallop - dusky blue paintwork (windowsill, skirting and door frame) sets it off. Lots of pictures (which are birthday cards framed in cheap Ikea frames painted in the blue). She has a lemon light stop blind and while voile curtains which are just to look pretty and are not actually drawn. It took me a while but it looks lovely. All is easy to paint over when decorating time comes again.

Dd1's room is creamy coloured but with flowery curtains/duvet (Cath kidston rip-offs at Ikea). My one tip would be to put up a peg rail at kid height, my dd1 loves hers and loves to hang all her bits on it, we also put a mirror up at her height which she also loves.

Have you tried Dulux.co.uk? Dulux do a range of paints called Kid Zone which are really vibrant and have a few stencils and things to make the room more childlike. HTH

I like the ranges at Next and Next Directory. Some of them are not too little girlish.
