Hello to all Australian mumsnetters! Getting fed up with life in London and the English weather - we are thinking of moving to Sydney as dp has Australian passport and we loved it there when we were single. Would we love it with a 2 year old? We would need to find a home, work and make friends - do you think it would be terribly hard?
And I want another baby within 2 years! HELP!

When my nephew moved to Sydney he worked in the film industry (The Matrix, ugh!). He had been a runner over here but seemed to be doing AD type work quite quickly there although it may not have been AD as it was still quite junior.
One thing I would say is, don't expect the folks back home to manage to keep up as good a relationship as you'd like. Its so hard to be spontaneous when the time difference is so great. I know there is messaging and emailing but after a while you just lose the need and desire to communicate so much. The bond definintely goes. Of course its stronger with their parents, at least with my nephew's although not with his wife's, but maintaining the friendships gets harder. Of course they have plenty of friends over there but all their relatives are here and that connection has gone. I think they expected a lot more visitors from here too but for us its impossble with an autistic child and just 2 year old so we'll probably never do it, just have to see them when they come here.

Thanks very much - it is true that it would kill me to end up in suburbia, and it is true to say that Australia does have a lot of social problems, not so evident maybe under the sun. I guess we will try Sydney for 6 months, we can always come back to the UK after all. Thank you mumsnet.
