Got a lift off my sister yesterday and she went to answer her phone whilst driving. When I refused to give it to her until she'd pulled over as it's illegal, she couldn't believe it! She was laughing saying I'm such a loser etc. Just found her attitude absolutely amazing!

My DH also uses his (legal) handsfree, which is one of those proper ones, like a cradle in the dashboard. I thought the use of headset type handsfree kits whilst driving was also illegal now ?

DH has the type of job which means he frequently has to drive to the South East (we're 25 miles south of Brum), which means several hours in the car each way. He also has the sort of job which means that he is using the phone very regularly, so his mobile is essential to him. Outlawing the use of mobile phones in cars under any circumstance would make DH's ( and many others) working lives very difficult indeed.

My former employer - a global multi-national, with a large fleet of drivers and a big sales force, banned the use of mobile phones, including handsfree, whilst a vehicle is in motion, wef 1st Jan 2004.

Not too good for business, but they did it in the interests of improving safety
