Q about putting 2yr old in an all in one rain suit..

ok so ds has always had an all in one rain coat with the stirup bits on the bottom to hold his wellies on. I dont know why but wellies never stay on him?? Or his feet never seem to go into them properly?

Anyway has now outgrown his wellies and rain suit so need to buy both esp as they are used at preschool every week as they go outside what ever the weather.

I have always found it such a faff getting him in the suit and wellies and seems to take forever, just wondering why this is and is it the same for everyone?? Im guessing it'; be easier when hes older as he can get his own wellies on? Have also only had wellies that have the draw string bit around the top (again SUPPOSED to help keep them on) dont know if they make it worse? He has quite wide feet so wondering if he will always have this prob withe them? Never buy cheap wellies either as they are always too wide. Have always had clarkes and the latest brantano which i have found rubbish.

so im guessing the Q is do i go for the same thing again and just get on with it?

Yes, I think you just need to get on with it (in the nicest possible way)!

Legs into suit, arms into suit, zip up, wellies on - dahdahhhh

we always put them on fire man style... put wellies in suit already, scrunch down the legs around the wellies and then just get dc to stand in wellies and then pull them up...

Would a pair of these with a jacket over the top be better for you?

That way you can just kind of lower him in and put the braces up.

I use a one-peice for my 2yo, and it's worth the faff. With the older ones I always had raincoats, and unless they wore long coats , or coats that were actually too big for them, they would get wet when they crouched over or stamped in puddles, or fell in puddles. As for wellies, the only ones I have ever found actually stay on their feet are Clarks (but I see you already use them).

My 3 year old wears an all in one and I just ignore the under feet straps and put his wellies or shoes on as normal.

The Togz suit we have for ds (3.5 now) doesn't have the under boot straps anymore - it has velcro that you can do up tight around the ankle. We will shortly be getting him the next size up. And, yes, an all-in-one is good - they can fall full-length into a puddle and only get damp round the neck - ds has proved this on a number of occasions. We also have waterproof dungarees - so he can play in the garden in spring when its really wet but warm - just a T shirt under the braces - and a raincoat - for when its a bit less wet or we may need to put coat on during walk.

Really recommend the Togz all-in-ones.

Wellie - ds has wide feet, but seems to manage to keep them on somehow, even though we don't buy expensive ones - Matalan, Sainsburys and Woolworths for some of recent purchases (we do lots of walks with the dog so he wears them out )

muddy puddles rainflex dungarees get my vote all the time!

RE: the wellies situation, my aunt managed to get a cheap pair of Totes socks for DD. Totes being those socks with "pads" on the feet. The socks are thicker so keep the wellies on better, and the pads give a bit of grip in the wellies. I also wear Totes under my walking boots for the same reason, don't bother with walking socks.
