tesco on line shopping, please advise with very first order!

hi, I've never shopped on line before but I'm sick of spending my day off in tesco for 3 hours

any advise on starting on line shopping? I have a club card

also how do I save a list so I can re use it next month/week I shop online?

Everything you order is automatically saved in your favourites. I think if you use your clubcard in store, it adds things you buy there onto your online favourites.

The first list will take you a while, so grab a coffee. Go to the websiste and follow instructions on how to register including giving your club card details. Then it is a matter of booking a slot and start shopping. Type in what you want and it will come up with a list, choose what you need and click on add. This list is saved in their records so when you next log on for shopping click on my favourites and it will bring up what you ahev previously bought.

the cost depends on the delivery slot.

It's brilliant and so addictive. I started about 6 weeks ago. It's very exciting to suddenly have lots of things in your kitchen that you didn't schlep round the store for.

Do your shop, then go back over your list and delete anything fanciful that you added in your excitement. But leave one nice thing in. It's very dull to unpack it all and find nothing but milk, bread and toilet cleaner

I usually find a code here to cover the delivery charge. You type it in at the checkout under "vouchers".

one thing I noticed, when buying ,say, loose potatoes how do you know how much to but, when it says quantity does it mean per potato, per kilo, per bag? I can see a van load of totties arriving for us!

For fruit and veg, you can choose how many you want, rather than by weight.
Also, before you place your order, check the quantity of everything. It's easy to add multiples to your basket if you don't mean to.

how do you choose?

I see a wee - and a & sign, is this the quantity eg> I can order 10 apples or will I get 10 kilos?

my top tip is to book your slot, then stick in about 7 bottles of whiskey, use your voucher code to get your discount and go through the checkout.

Then, go back in, delete the whiskey and do your shop.

You have 2 hours from booking inital slot to do the shop and I always felt pressured but if you do the above, your slot is "safe" and you can add and remove at any time. Just don't forget to "checkout" again.

What I do is firstly click on "see all offers" and choose from that list, then add in the boring stuff like milk etc.

Oh sorry! To use a discount code, you usuall have to spend a certain amount (50 / 60 / 70) so I just bung in enough booze to make it about £80.00 so the discount code applies. Then after I've checked out, I go bacvk in and take all the booze out and start afresh!

If you order via the mysupermarket.com website first it reroutes you to the tesco checkout at the end, I think their price swap function is great and you are still buying everything from tesco. If you order deliver e.g. a wed eve it is only £3.50. I found I saved a huge amount going via this website first!

Substitutions

If anything you order is out of stock they generally bring a substitute. They will show you it on their list before you sign for the shopping.

If you don't want it just say so and they take it back with them and it gets refunded automatically. It's perfectly reasonable to say no because sometimes they substitute an expensive item for a cheap one.

Changing your order.

After you checkout you can go back and do 'change my order' right up to midnight the night before (In fact I 'think' the cutoff is about 2-3am)

You can change it as often as you like and you can even change the delivery slot if the one you prefer is available.

I always do special offers first, then my favourites, and go back and take off most of the special offers to get back to budget. . Beware it does take a long time the first time, but is much quicker from then on.

Someone did that with Ocado and 6 bottles of wine but forgot to go and amend the order before the deadline. Enter one Ocado man with a delivery consisting of 6 bottles of expensive wine....

Where it says "how many", put in how many you want. It'll automatically change the weight.
