many, many

childrenofthecornsilk · 23/10/2008 15:25

Probably about 40.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 23/10/2008 15:27

Literally hundreds so far and I still haven't passed. I'm very crap at driving determined, aren't I?

Kathyis6incheshigh · 23/10/2008 15:28

Oh Cornsilk 40 isn't many!

Gobbledigook · 23/10/2008 15:28

I think I had 23 or 24 lessons adn no practice outside of the lessons and I passed - I was only 17 though and I think it's easier to do when you are younger.

Gobbledigook · 23/10/2008 15:29

And for the last 3 yrs I've been driving an automatic anyway - sooooo much easier

DraculaNeedsArteries · 23/10/2008 15:30

Well the official average is about 45hrs of paid tuition plus 22hrs of private practice.

Personalyl I did about 30hrs.

Most of DPs pupils do about 30-35 + private practice.

CoolYourJets · 23/10/2008 15:31

34 hours lessons, probably about 20 hours practice.

Lilymaid · 23/10/2008 15:32

20 hours lessons plus loads of practice with my parents at age 17. But it was a long time ago and the Model T Ford didn't have many gears.

zippitippitoes · 23/10/2008 15:32

22 lessons of one hour each and no practice as no access to a vehicle

passed first time

location edinburgh

Boco · 23/10/2008 15:32

I think I've probably had about 40 spread over 3 years but I keep running out of money and having to stop so then I'm back to square one.

I've got my test in a couple of weeks and if I don't pass then I'm back to square one AGAIN having exhausted dds bank account / borrowing from parents and friends etc. The pressure is giving me lock jaw.

DontKillMeBaby · 23/10/2008 15:51

25, plus a bit of practice outside lessons. But I was only 17 ... and I wrote my mum's car off within a fortnight of passing.

LittleMyDancingWithTheDevil · 23/10/2008 15:52

17 at age 17

stitch · 23/10/2008 15:52

well, i failed the test five times.

suzywong · 23/10/2008 15:53

60

passed 4 times

OMG that's 450 pounds and that was back in the olden days . I'd better thank my mother.

plj · 23/10/2008 15:54

Had about 12 lessons so far, lasting 1.5 hours each, and not even started doing 3 point turns and parallel parking. Need a few weeks of that then will go for theory test. Goodness knows how long after that till I go for my test.

ChopsTheDuck · 23/10/2008 15:55

I think I had 30 plus.

CountessDracula · 23/10/2008 15:56

Hours?
Do you mean lessons?

I had 6 I think

PortAndDemon · 23/10/2008 15:56

About 80 hours of lessons, with no other practice as our [expletive deleted] insurers at the time wouldn't cover me. Everyone in my family takes ages to pass or just never manages it, though (except one of my brothers, who I suspect may be a changeling or at least a throwback).

Kathyis6incheshigh · 23/10/2008 15:57

You had only 6 lessons Countess ??? Are you some kind of driving genius?

PortAndDemon · 23/10/2008 15:59

(Kathy -- have you thought about just learning/testing in an automatic? They are muchmuchmuchmuchmuch easier. Obviously then you could only drive automatics, but you could at least drive (apologies if this has occurred to you already and your last two hundred hours have been in an automatic... )

uptomyeyes · 23/10/2008 15:59

24 lessons - presumably 1 hour each. I was 18 and worked all summer to pay for three lessons per week and passed in 6-7 weeks. No other practise outside of lesson - well actually I went out twice with my dad, the first time we got to the end of the road, had a row and I walked home. The second time we got to the high street, had a row and I walked home.

CountessDracula · 23/10/2008 16:00

um
no
It wasn't hard though
and I had plenty of practise

My mum used to take me to a disused airfield from about 14 so I already knew how to drive really I spose

Kathyis6incheshigh · 23/10/2008 16:01

Portanddemon - I am having one final bash at learning in an automatic. After many many years I think I have finally mastered gears, so I don't want to give up on a manual just yet. But if I fail this time then yes, I think I might just go for automatic!

MyEye · 23/10/2008 16:06

I had about 10 lessons (2 hrs) and passed first time. I was 36.

(I haven't driven since then though . It's alien to me.)
