Just wondering whether anyone knows which piece of classical music that recurs again and again in this film that I really like (with Juliette Stevenson and whathisname that I keep on forgetting but who is gorgeous)...

Can we just go back a bit? Dolly Parton is gay? I don't believe that - she's married ( I know, I know). Only found out about Sam Fox a few weeks ago - when did she come out? Can't believe that Alan Rickman is either.

Has Dolly come out as gay or is it just the same old rumour that has been going around for years? SHe has always eloquently and amusingly said she is NOT gay. Has this changed?

It definately said he did on the site where I got the title

Whoa! The power of mumsnet

Finally found it - yes it's 1.30 am but I had to know The cellist in TMD was Caroline Dale (was a Young Musician of The Year Finalist in its very first year at the age of 14 IIRC). Alan Rickman did learn to play the cello especially for the film in order to look authentic, and does a fantastic job, as well as being as sexy as ever!

Droile, I love Michael Maloney as well - much more than Alan Rickman who has (I think) nasty eyes, unlike MM's velevety pools

I have liked him for ages and ages, ever since I first saw him in a TV drama about being a single dad, when he played a character called Dominic.

judetheobscure · 18/03/2003 10:14

But Michael Maloney is so weedy and wimpy and Alan Rickman is just a hunk .... alright alright, each to her own .. just as well we don't all like the same men

Chrisd · 18/03/2003 16:53

saw Michael Maloney play Romeo with RSC a few years ago,so the film is a double treat for me 2 men to drool over but still prefer AR and Michael is going a bit bald the last time I saw him in anything.

I hope AR is not gay I thing people are just jealous he is handsome sucessful and sexy as hell but my husband has suggested the same thing.

suedonim · 19/03/2003 08:04

What's all this about AR being gay??? It CAN'T be true, pleeease!! I've met him in RL and he is soooooo sexy. I was so overcome that I couldn't utter a word, just ogled at him and listened to that chocolately smooth voice. How embarassing, when you are 40-something to regress to being 14 again. Oooh, I've come over all unecessary at the mere thought of him.......

Juno · 19/03/2003 10:17

Well AR and MM are all very well, but my love object in TMD is Juliet Stevenson, who has been sadly neglected on this thread!! I have seen the film zillions of times (someone put me out of my misery and bought me the video!) and love it to bits, especially them singing The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Any More.

A former work colleague absolutely hates the film, on the grounds that it uses the disabled people at MM's school as a cheap way of showing what a good guy he is. But I disagree.

FWIW, I think Bundle may possibly have been wrong about Alan Rickman, although he is a bit camp in an ac-torishly way.

ditsymum · 19/03/2003 10:38

yes that is my theory too he is a bit of a Luvvie but does that just not go with the job description?

I think if I met him face to face I would forget my name age reason for being on this planet etc and just burble rubbish but again they must get sort of used to that as well.

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 17/04/2016 12:03

Yes I know I'm a little late to this thread...

AR has said that it was his hand using the bow, and a cello player proper doing the left handed stuff... Seemed they threaded their arm through his armpit! Grin. Looked and sounded fab!

Do I get a prize for being the latest person to a thread??

chickenowner · 23/04/2016 22:46

Completely love that film :-)

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 26/04/2016 12:28

I watched it again, only last weekend! It is fabulous!
