not when they're new yurtgirl. They do when they're a few years old- in my experience anyway- get the plastic coated one- much better

I have one similar to this - it holds loads more even when you drape things over 2 rails to dry the middles.

Sad? Boring? Moi?

Yes, they do. I threw mine out in disgust a few years ago. I found I could never get the brown stains out.

has anyone got one that hangs from the ceiling? We stayed in a holiday cottage last year and they had one in the utility room, it was great.

mum's got one that hangs from the ceiling. quite an expensive one i think and it doesn't leave stains (funnily enough- i thought it would do) my mum gets loads of use out of hers

I've got one that hangs from the ceiling, it's great for getting damp clothes out of the way and luckily it's in the utility room anyway, so I can close the door on it.

It's only a string one though, not a wooden one which is more traditional.

The ceiling kind (they are called maidens btw) usually have proper varnished slats and shouldn't stain. (The concertina type are bare wood, absorb the moisture and get mildewed.) Maidens are excellent - as long as you have a high ceiling of course!

Yours is a poncey modern one, yg - you want a Sheila Maid , you do

AAAARGH - errant apostrophe alert!

There was one here when we moved in - very old one - but we had to get rid of it when we redid the kitchen (no space for it). I have a friend who still has hers (bigger kitchen and 10' ceiling) and it is brilliant.

How high is your ceiling though, yg? Would you have to walk through dangling wet things? If not and you have space then varnishing the slats should do the trick!

Erm, my wooden airer doesn't leave brown marks on teh clothes. Did when I first got it but prob because I got it for £2 in a house clearance shop and suspect previous owner prob died of lung cancer. Just wiped it with diluted bleach. Fine now.
