SAHM - what kinds of things do you all day when your lo are in school ?

I have either worked, or looked after my lo. My lo has now started school fulltime, I just wanted some other opinions and advice off other mumsnetters.

What do they do all day at home ?

I am obviously keeping on top of all my housework, go shopping etc. but can't shop everyday. Otherwise I will need to get a job again.

Thought about taking up a hobby, but can't think of anything to do.

Have tried to get a p/t job but prior to children taught and can't seem to find a job that is p/t to suit around the school hours. Have applied for a couple of p/t jobs admin job, but no real experience and p/t shop work, but again no real experience.

Have recently moved to the area, so don't know that many people.
Just wanted to know apart from constant housework, what do other mums do during the day ?

Have you thought about childminding?

You could even just take after schoolers - pick up from your child's school, then you'd still be free during the day.

Hi CapricaSix, I did think about doing some more studying, I had just finished my M.A. a couple of years ago. Did think about taking up another p/t subject for a while. I.e. going back to college.
I might look at the OU for something to do.

I volunteer at my dd's school and another primary school in the village three days out of five. They are so pleased to have parental help and I love it.
Dd2 is only at Nursery in the mornings. If I had the afternoons too I would go to the gym, sort out the photographs , read a book, do the gardening and probably MN more .

If you only cater for over 5s there's hardly any red tape. It's a piece of p*ss!

I have 4 dcs and have been a busy sahm for some time ! Youngest has just started reception; I don't plan on returning to work for now, but so far the next few months will hold for me:

• creative writing course; half day attending it + assignments done at home
• project managing the renovation of our house (we will move out in Jan and rent for 6 months during this)
• losing my baby belly by going to the gym properly
• seeing to all those things (like photo sorting !) which build up over the years as I'v had NO TIME to do them
• oh and the normal cooking, food shopping, stopping "my" day at 2.30pm for the start of the school run !
